I took my proview to a repair man and he said the system control unit is not working. I have a proview pa-40jk1a. I looked and looked and cannot find any part that says system control unit for that tv. do I have the name of the part wrong

Possibly a printed circuit board gone in it,recommend a TV repair man have a look.

if you take the back off of it (only 3 big black screws)
and look at the yellow motherboard (power inverter)
on the top - left most connector

there is at the top of it one red wire in the convector
the pin it touches will be singed because of a bad confection arching electricity. clean the pin with 600-800 grit sandpaper

put it back together and you will have one working tv

Replace the RCA component video cable.Should work after that,not yes the cable box.Should reboot the cable box buy unplug,replug it an hour later or call the cable company for the replacement box.

power light is on srceen is black.

The universal remotes are never that great anyway. Even if you find a universal remote for the TV, 90% of the time you can't control the menu options and other settings. It's best to have the remote made for the TV.

I know a few good web sites for remotes at a good price.
Is your Tv model a PA-32JK1A ?

Had the same problem and stumbled on the code for the Proton tv, 10178. (We use a Comcast Cable remote) It works! For us at least... Good luck!
