Hello

If you're replacing a motherboard then the new motherboard has a jumper across the on/off jumpers. If this is used board then check to make sure the on/off jumper pins are not shorted. If OK boot up and go into BIOS. Make sure that any line stating Automatic Turn ON is off.

Power Supplies usually don't get faulty. Sometimes my BIOS would get stuck & I plug the Lithium Battery (Coin Cell) out and plug it back in & Everything works fine. For example this problem is like having a USB storage stuck at copying/deleting something and you have to PULL IT OUT and PLUG IT IN to make it work again. Sometimes this type of problem may occur with SATA Cables, the one who connect motherboard with harddisk. Sometimes the ram would get faulty. Process remains the same. In 10 Years of my computing history I don't remember facing any problems with Power Supply Unit.

Hope this is revelant.

Will not start

smor4u,

There is no reset or fuse to reset. You may need to get replacement power supply. If the computer is plugged into a power strip or surge protector you can bypass it and plug the system directly into a wall outlet and power up.
Power Supply Light-on the back of the computer.
The light is a Green Light by the power supply.
Power Supply light is lit by a signal in the power supply called Power_Good (PG).
If the Power Supply Light Led is not light up, the power supply is defective.
If you need to replace the power supply you can contact the Dell Spare Parts Department at 1-877-717-3355bsat4ube4gblqiaaaaasuvork5cyii= or click the link below.

T5020 emachine seems to have dead power supply- how can I confirm?

If the PSU fans only work for a short time usually this means that the PSU is shot

If you suspect your power supply has gone bad, there are a few basic things you can do to test it. First, plug the computer in and try to start up the computer. If the computer can start up or shows signs of having power (the hard drives spin up, or the fans turn on) the power supply might be fine, and you may have an issue with your motherboard or RAM. If the computer won't start at all, open the case and then turn the power supply on and attempt to start the computer. Observe the motherboard to see if any lights turn. If no lights turn on and there is no sign that power is being supplied to any of your devices, there's a decent chance that the power supply has burned out. If your computer experiences periodic crashing, feel the case near the power supply to see if it is hotter than normal, and smell the air. If the case is much hotter than normal or you smell burning, your power supply might be overheating, and may be damaged. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/f/powersupplytest.htm hope this helps

My Gateway DX 4300-05 won't start. Not even the power supply. Does the motherboard have a reset?

If I am reading the frist part of your stament correctly, the power supply does not even kick on when you press the power button. Don not unplug anything from the inside of the computer at this time, instead check your power cord and make sure it is plugged in thightly to both the computer and power strip. Check to make sure the power strip is on, plug something else (like a light) and test the power strip. If the item does not come on, then you may have a bad power strip. To confirm plug the item you are testing with into the outlet the power strip is plugged in to and see if it works. If not your outlet may be bad, contact an electrician. If everything works, but the power supply is still not kicking on, you possibly have a bad power supply. You will need to pick up a replacement power supply and install it in the computer. This is were you unplug everything wire bundle that comes from the power supply to the mother board (paying attention to what was plugged in where). Take the new power supply, install it, plug everything back in. Now try the power button. If this fails then yes you have a bad mother board.

I know most computer retailers that offer repairs, have a device to check the power supply. A good repair place will check this at little or no cost to you, if you agree to let them install the replacement if it is bad (they will charge you for the power supply and installation of it).

I hope this helps

Gateway mx6214 will not powerup -bought a new power cord and it still doesn't work. What could be the problem?

It is the plug in the laptop that is most likely the cause, plug the power supply in the laptop. Now put your thumb on the plug at the laptop, as you bend it sideways hit the power button repeatedly to see if it will power up, failing that take the main battery out of the laptop and use power supply only. Please take the main battery out first to see if your power supply will start the computer if the computer starts up change the battery.

Acer one notebook no display and automatic shutdown

= if your laptop computer will not start =
laptops have power supplys that can lock up
the power adapters conectors break all the time
and the batterys are designed to be "con$umable$"
so

- - -- - -- - -power reset - - -- - -- - -- - -
remove the power adapter's wall plug &
leave the power adapter plugged into the computer
but pull the laptop battery out of the laptop.
press the power button just like you are trying to start it
but press it longer, this will drain & reset
the internal supply, now relese the button.

-- - -- - -power adapter only test - - -- - -- - -
reconnect the power adapter's wall plug
press the power button to start it with just the power adapter ,
If the power adapter starts the laptop on its own go down to
"If the computer can be started"

If the power adapter does not start the laptop on its own
leave the power adapter plugged into the computer but
remove the power adapter's wall plug & press the power button
just like you are trying to start it again,
then relese the button

- - -- - - battery only test - - -- - -- - -
unplug the power adapter & put the battery back in
press the power button to start it with just the battery

if the battery starts it on its own go down to
"If the computer can be started"

if the battery ALMOST starts it on its own
DO NOT BUY A NEW ONE! it may only be discharged
locate another laptop just like yours and charge it,
and yes this is crazy and yes i am sorry!.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
- if your laptop computer cannot start at all -
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

this can be caused by a bad;
connector ($5-$60), power adapter($5-$60),
battery ($70), internal supply ($40-$90),
or main/mother board ($100-$300)

If the internal power supply is bad or if the
power conector fails at random (intermitant)
most of the cost is determined by how dificult
finding parts and dismantling the laptop is
and if it's external or internal

I have replaced the power supply on my Acer Aspire X1700 computer but the new power supply acts exactly like the old. When I plug it in and turn it on the "Power Supply On" voltage goes from 5 VDC to 0 VDC...

When you have this problem on this PC, do not replace the power supply or the motherboard until you have first tried pulling out the video card. When the video card fails it can cause the x1700 to not power up. Pull the video card and see if it will power up without it.

They all do, I believe, I installed a new one, into my computer system not long ago, are you sure your power supply is one that the computer can handle? You shouldn't have that much of a problem - I wouldn't go pulling apart the wires on the power supply, its made like that for a reason, what you could try is see if your power supply has seated properly, sometimes if your not working on a flat surface the power supply plug won't go in properly and will not be pushed in all of the way, try laying your computer on its side, and pushing in the plug also, each motherboard has a certain amount of plugs for example 20 and 24, some motherboards want it to be a 20 power plug and others want it to be 24 power plug, thats the plug thats connected to your motherboard, that I'm talking about. make sure you have the right number, and that the motherboard plug and the power supply plug match, basically have the same number of connectors, (I mean that little white plug at the end of the red, yellow, black, wires, I hope this helps. ps- I really had to push on the white plug to get my seated properly
