Question about Panasonic PV-GS500 Camcorder

1 Answer

Panasonic PV-GS500 Just this week when I've been recording with my PV-GS500, when I playback with the camera, there are thick blue lines across my picture I've tried to tape. I bought a DVCassette head cleaner and "played" it for the suggested 10 seconds, but it still has wide blue lines when I record. Does anyone know why this is happening? HELP! My son's kindergarten concert is this coming Wednesday...

Same problem, have used the GS500 for only about an hour or 2, and on playback i have thick blue horizontal lines on the screen (5 lines, straight, no wobbling) - the camcorder had been giving me a message that it needs cleaning for a few minutes of recording (like 15), before i tried the playback. I tried cleaning it for about 30 seconds (3x more than the 10 recommended), and nothing changed.

I had the same problem but without the needing cleaning message on my Pana PvGs12, weird as it sounded, I stopped it but left it on and gave it a whack on my palm and then tired playing it again and it fixed it. But I have heard it may also need professional head repair and that it may be out of alignment too? Try switching from doing it in the camera mode and or in the playback mode. I'd also try the reset button.

Lines across screen on playback.

A Q-tip should never be used to clean a video head.  Unfortunately they can pull the tiny head out of alignment.  I believe this is your problem and the repaid may be more costly than a new purchase.

Recording and playback problems

Profession diagnosis was that the drum is out of round and cost of repair prohibitive, so I bought a new Panasonic PV-GS500 with a service contract this time! I had actually dropped the GS-150 when it was fairly new and the fall was cushioned by landing on the battery, so I did get a couple of years of good use from it.

I continue to use it as a still camera -- Amazingly, it takes great stills (better than my GS500). Unfortunately, my husband lost the lens cover (and the lens is kind of scratched now), so I would like to replace these parts if I can do so at a reasonable price. Thanks.

Solid blue lines through Picture on playback mini DV PV-gs19

One possible cause is that normal recording
could not be performed because the heads were
dirty at the time of recording. Clean the heads,
and perform recording and playback again. If
normal playback can be performed, the heads are
clean. Before an important recording, be sure to
conduct a test recording to make sure that normal
recording can be performed.

≥If the heads become dirty soon after cleaning,
the problem may be the tape. If so, try another
cassette.

≥During playback, the picture or sound may be
interrupted momentarily, but this is not a
malfunction of the Camcorder. (One possible
cause is that the playback is interrupted by dirt
or dust that momentarily adheres to the heads.)

Blue bars across video

I have the same problem with my PV-GS14. You have to find the last spot you recorded in, pause it, then switch to record, and just record something for a couple of seconds. Switch back to playback, and it should be fine. Neonlaundry, I read your other posts, and it seems we both have the same problems. If you find a solution, please post it. Thnks.
