Question about Western Digital My Book Essential Edition (WDG1U5000N) 500 GB Hard Drive
I accidentally deleted files from my 1TB My Book and am trying to figure out how I might restore them. Compounding the problem is the fact that the computer (an iMac) to which the My Book is connected didn't have enough space on its disk to hold all of the files in question, so while some of the files are still in the iMac's recycle bin, there are many gigs worth of deleted files which are not. Is there any hope of restoring all the files?
You will need to recover lost data using something like asoftech data recovery program.
I've had to use it many times in the past but in this case you need to take out the hard drive from mac and put it into a Windows computer as an external drive or slave drive and run the software from there. It will rebuild the drive and hopefully recover the files.

Yes, it's possible though not 100% sure. But if you want to maximize chances of WD file recovery, obey the rules & steps.
First thing first - STOP using your WD drive immediately! If you continue using the disk drive, you significantly increase the risk that the files you want to recover will be lost forever due to overwritten. Every new file or action will take up more "free space" and reduce your chances of retrieving your deleted files from WD. So really, you need to act quickly.
The next step - get a good HDD data recovery software to retrieve the data as most as possible.

As matter of fact, when you connected a WD external drive to your iMac, and accidentally deleted a couple files out it. The files won't go to the Trash bin of your Mac. The Trash only receives files deleted from internal Macintosh HD. In your case the MOST effective way is to try this Data Recovery for Mac program, pretty powerful yet easy to use. OK! After deleting something on a PC, the
deleted files are not immediately destroyed. They are only moved to a folder
named "Recycle Bin". Just check the recycle bin to restore them back.
But, in your case, you need a deleted file data recovery freeware to get back all your deleted files for free. This freeware would deeply scan your PC and retrieve all the scanned files for you easily.
Just give this freeware a shot here:

When that happens, it is never too late to recover your deleted data so it is very, very important to not save any new files or data to the device or computer concerned. At the same time put your device in safe place. Don't let them have the posssibility to encouter physical damage. As data overwritten or physical damage will make the deleted data extremely hard to be recovered.
Then THE MOST EFFECTIVE way to recover your deleted files is by relying on a data recovery tool. I think Wondershare Data Recovery might help. This program has four critical functions which will meet your different data losing demands. Most important it supports Folder Scanning that will make the whole scanning process less time intensive.
