Question about Garden
I have a Mastercraft 18.5 hp lawn mower and the stater bendix is worn out. How do I remove the starter bendix?
First of all you'll have to remove the starter and then put it in a soft vise. If no soft vise is available use a couple small pieces of wood between the vise jaws and the starter body. don't put too much strain on the vise because you may crush the casing of the motor which contains the magnets. There is a proper tool for this unless your very mechanically inclined. I've seen some guys use a small hammer and a small socket but the little ring at the top of the post may be your biggest issue. Unless you have a real good set of pliers or snap ring pliers, you may have a little difficulty getting it off. Also, don't put the old one back, you'll have to get a new one because once you spread it apart it may not fit back properly ever again. When you purchase the gear get the little ring with it, Check the box the gear comes in because that little ring should be in the box. Good luck
