Try to boot into safe mode by tapping F8 when you restart and see the Compaq screen. Once you see the multiboot option screen come up, choose "safe Mode with Networking". When windows boots up into safe mode go to control panel > Power Options > In power schemes tab, look down at system standby and select "never", now go to the Hibernation tab and uncheck the box and hit apply.
Click ok and reboot normally.

This is a common hibernation issue ... here is the fix:
Once you are able to get it to start up again (there is no sure fire way to do this, it just happens!).
The virtual memorymy laptop went into hibernation and now it wont - 2.gif size is set too low! It must be set to an amount larger than your amount of physical memory. (If you have 2GB or memory, then Virtual memory must be more than 2048MB.

Right-click [My computer]
In the [General] tab, note the amount of RAM
Select the [Advanced] tab
Select the [Settings] button in the "Performance" section.
Click on the [Advanced] tab
Click on the [change] button in the "Virtual Memory" section
almost there!
Highlight the boot drive (C:)
Don't change the locartion of the VM file.
Select "Custom size" radial button.
Enter a number that ois larger than your physical memory from the General tab
1GB = 1024MB (plus 512MM or so) = 1536MB
2GB=2048MB (plus 512MB or so) = 2560MB
3GB=3072MB (plus 512MB or so) = 3584MB
[SET]
[OK]
[OK]
etc.....

My HP compact nc6000 laptop went to Hiberating mode and i don't know how to fix the problem. If i could please get help that would be great. i just got this laptop yesterday. it was working but all of...

Hi Jessica,

Hibernation mode usually turns the computer off but saves any work. Then you would start it back up by hitting the power button, it will boot up and you log in like normal and the computer should be as it was before it went into hibernation.

If you can't get it out of hibernation by pressing the power button, try holding the power button for 5-10 seconds. The laptop may actually still be on, and holding the power button will cut if off. Once the computer is back on you can change the battery options(hibernation/turn off settings) in Windows by going to the bottom right task bar and right clicking on the battery icon. Normally you will have an option like "power saving settings", "battery settings". In this setting window you can turn off hibernation due to inactivity.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Regards,
G33k

Hibernation file corrupt or missing on bootup how do I delete this message

Try disabling the hibernation feature, rebooting your laptop, then re-enabling the hibernation feature. This will delete the hibernation file.
Next time you hibernate your system, the hibernation file will be recreated.

Computer is not starting up in standard windows mode. dell media keeps popping up and when i exit the program my pc shuts down. i tried ctrl and f8 it brings me to a short menu. (1) continue restart...

Are you running Window XP? Is your computer set to hibernate? If so, you may have a hibernation error...

If I understand correctly, while pressing F8 during bootup you received a message that states:
"System restart has been paused:
Continue with system restart.
Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu"

You may wish to read this article about the error. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/294427

Then, go ahead and do that second option. What hibernate does is write a big file to the HD with the exact state of Windows. That is a "restoration" file. If hibernate doesn't work, deleting the restoration file will often allow the computer to restart normally.

Good luck! Please post back with your results.

Hibernating problem (Windows Vista)

Hello,

There are two ways to enable hibernation on a laptop. When you bootup your laptop, there is a text hint for access to your laptop's setup. It is Del, F2 or F10 most commonly. Look for that hint and enter hte bios setup for your laptop. Once inside the setup, look on all the pages to find the power options for running on Adapter Power and Battery Power. In this area will be an option for the default action when your lid closes. The safest is turn off, but more commonly you will want to user Hibernate. You can set this for the action on batteries and on adapter if you want.

As you may know, hibernation requires and creates a rather large file on your C: drive that contains all the information Vista needs to reload your computer to the exact state it was in at the time you placed the computer into Hibernation.

Also, in Windows also, you can enable hibernation and set its terms. Right click a blank area of your desktop, select Properties. You will see the well known Screen Saver and Desktop Background choices interface. When you click on Screen Saver you'll notice at the bottom right a button titled Power, click on that. On the subsequent page look for and check off the box titled 'enable hibernation'. You will also see the various timeouts for Standby, Sleep and Hibernate now. You will also see options for actions such as closing the lid. You want to be certain that the actions in Windows for the Lid Closure matches the actions you set in the System Setup at boot time.

Any questions? use the comment box below to ask away.

Worldvet
