I have a westell verizon router connected to an rca cable modem. I can't seem to get them on the same page. my computer says I am connected but the internet does not work unless i unplug the ethernet cord from the router and plug directly into computer. It did this before but all of a sudden just started working. It stopped again because I unplugged everything to move it around.

  • mathewperry Sep 24, 2009

it goes cable modem ---> wireless router ---> computer. when i ran the ipconfig it says i have an ip address and everything looks fine. i am currently plugged in directly to my modem. the router is not plugged in to either. when i plug from modem to router i get no connection on my computer. even if i plug from modem to router to plug in computer i don't get anything. wireless never works. i can't seem to get info from modem through router to computer.

westell 750015. the back of it has a port for dsl and 4 others. i don't have a plug that fits into the dsl one though. i was just using an ethernet cord to go between the modem and router. like i said that worked at some point but stopped when i unplugged everything to move it. the wireless does not work. it says i am connected just fine with my network but nothing ever materializes in internet explorer. i am curently plugged directly into modem. nothing is plugged into router.

Is your connection wireless? if you are connected to the router but you dont have internet access, what about the other computers connected in same network, do they have internet connection?
first you must check if you are in the network: 1. Open RUN (Start => RUN) 2. Type in the box "cmd" (without the quotes) then press ENTER 3. When the DOS Prompt loads, type "ipconfig /all" (without the quotes, space between g and /)
Now, do you see an IP? It should be like 192.168.xxx.xxx If you have an IP, then you are connected to the router but you were behind a firewall or browser settings problem.
Keep me informed with your comments. Please tell me your connection scheme like: Internet modem => Router (wireless) => PC/Laptop

the connection should be Cable Modem => Wireless Router
then from there, you can plug an RJ-45 LAN cable to a desktop or any LAN-capable device to get connected. Besides, wifi should work already.

In your wireless router, there is an "isolated port" named "internet", there should your modem cable go. And you have additional 4-ports for wired LAN connections, right? Bty, what is the name (complete with model) of your router? Since some routers should be configured first to work with the internet connection you have.

Please keep me posted with your comments

if you are using linksys, try to access your router to configure it: click here
if you are using d-link, click here
if you have other routers, then tell me the name to help you access the configuration page.

ok. so that you can use your router, it should be connected this way:

MODEM => (patch cable, RJ-45 cable) ROUTER
from your router you can connect with wire from any of the 4 ports to a desktop or laptop. Besides, you can configure your router to broadcast wifi signal as well.

Ok. try to follow those steps: Connect you modem to your router using the correct cable that fits to the DLS port. from there, your modem will broadcast internet to all that is connected to your modem. When this connection is done, visithttp://192.168.1.1 orhttp://192.168.0.1 to configure your router. OK, before you can visit that link, make sure that the computer you are using is connected to the router to any of the 4 ports.

    One more thing sir.
We will test your router this way without internet since you dont have the cable from modem to router taht fits to the DSL port of your router.

Connect any PC to your router using LAN Cable. Turn on your router. Then visithttp://192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 to configure it.

Or simply command "ipconfig /all" in the DOS prompt and see if you got an IP address

When you are connected, then the only problem left is the cable to connect your router to your Cable Modem

Click on start and then "run" and type in cmd.exe

When the window comes up, type in ping www.verizon.net

If you are connected to the internet, you will see a reply from that website (4) times. If you are not connected to the internet, it will say no repsonse.

Go to accessories, then communications, and click on new connection wizard. That may get the internet pages working

My laptop is not connecting to the internet, its all connected to the wireless but when m trying to connect to the internet, its saying "the page cannot be found"

A 'page not found' error usually means that you are connected to the internet but the address of the page you want cannot be determined. Try connecting the laptop directly to the router with an ethernet cable and see what web pages work correclty. Then try wirelessly but do not go too far from the router.

How to set dsl modem

You go to start menu and access the Control Panel. Open Network Connections and make sure the LAN connection is enabled. If not, right click and select Enable. After confirming LAN connection, then go back a page and click Internet Options. Then the page will automatically show you the General Tab. Type in (or verify) home page in the window. eg. www.aol.com . Then select Connections Tab. Remove any connections that appear in the window below. Below that on the same page, select LAN Settings. Check the Automatically Detect option. This will allow your PC to detect your modem and your internet service. Select OK at the bottom and the window will close. Click Start again and select the Internet Explore. If your internet service is active the window will open to your home page. Good Luck!
