I have a Husqvarna Viking Designer 1. After doing some embroidery this evening for the first time in a long while, the feed dogs will not come back up after removing the embroidery arm and toggling the power. I have tried manually changing the feed dog position with the switch on the front of the machine, but that does not work.

You need to complete one full revolution of handwheel to re-engage feeddogs....or there is lint trapped under needleplate...clean it out !!

What machine do you have? Have you tried manually raising the feed dogs with the switch? (Need to know which machine you have to help you find the switch.)

The feeders aren't working. The material stays in one place.

We don't know what machine you have, but I'm guessing perhaps you dropped the feed dogs for darning. The feed dogs will still move backward, down, then forward, but in darning mode, they never rise above the needle plate to grab the fabric.

I have a Juki8700 it does not seem to be feeding the fabric thru on the feed dog

ck presser foot tension. even with sightest presser ft tension goods should feed. next ck that your feeder plate is not loose or broken. take off the plate and see if u can move the feeders with your finger. tighten screws makinf sure the needle is centered inthe feeder plate hole. if this is not the problen then youe=r feeder plate teeth are too low or worn out. look up how to raise the feeders. the should be 1/8" above plate.

How do you know when the feeder dogs are up and down for futura 250

you can see the feed dogs in the needle plate area and be able to feel them with your finger
and the machine will sew a straight stitch when the feed dogs are in the up sewing position
if the feed dogs are down then the machine will not sew only stay in one position

I have an Elna 2730. the feed dog is not transporting the fabric anymore and the needle just keeps stitching in the same place. is it broken or just needs adjusting?

if you have a manual, look to see where the feed dogs are, if the lever for the feed dogs is in the up position then the machine will sew a straigh stitch
if the feed dog lever is in the down position then it will only stay in one spot,
if you try to push the lever up and it will not stay or stays and will not sew then the feed dogs need to be checked

Machine sewing in one spot won't move and cotton jamming up

sounds like the feed dogs are in the down position, do you have a
manual for the machine that you can look at to see where the
feed dog lever is at and move it in the opposite direction,
if you don't have a manual, send me a commment with the name
and model number of the machine and I'll try to help you find a manual

Feeder dogs will not feed fabric at all.

it's possible that the feed dogs need a adjustment or they need to be
timed by a sewing machine repair technican

My Elna 7200 doesnt feed properly especially if I start out with a bulky seam. It also has problems crossing seams. Any ideas?

You could try using a seam jumper when crossing bulk, this is a little plastic device that you put in front and behind the pressure foot to keep it level as it goes over the bulk. This then means the machine can keep feeding the fabric evenly. WIthout it, the feed dogs arent getting enough pressure, the machine slows and can't feed the seam, your needle may deflect and strike the foot, and broken needle may be the result.

Here is a link to one called a Jean a Ma Jig,

Also, try bashing the seam you are wanting to sew across first with a hammer and always trim the seam allowances inside the seam if you can. If sewing denim, use a denim needle with blue coating, it helps it pass between the densely woven fibres in this fabric.

However, it may be that your machine just hasn't got the strength to stitch through more than 6 layers, many wont. Especially if you use buttonhole twist thread to get the read to wear jeans seam finish. I often resort to using my old SInger 20U industrial straight stitch when altering jeans.

I have a necchi model 575FA, and the needle will not advance any idea why?

if the sewing machine is not sewing & staying in one spot the that means the feed dogs are not working properly.
I also have a necchi sewing machine, check the needle plate area that's where the feed dogs are, if the feed dogs are up where you can see them & even feel them with you fingers when you rub your fingers over the needle plate area, if you can't see them good or feel them, then they are not up,,my instruction book shows that you have to remove the extension table, their should be a small door in front of the needle plate area to open that's where the feed dogs are if they are not in the up position, where you can sew, if they are in the down position move the lever to the opposite direction & see if that help the machine to sew, if it make makes no difference which position there in , then it's possible something is wrong with the feed dogs & the machine needs to be serviced

My sewing machine was working fine until I changed the stitch length. Now it just stitches in one spot. I didn't change anything else. I've rethreaded the top thread, bottom thread, and changed needles....

So is the stitch length now back on 2.5 for a normal straight stitch?

Or have you perhaps put it into a buttonhole sequence or something where it is sewing in the same spot.

Or have the feed dogs been disengaged accidentally, this would also mean no forward motion during stitching. Can you run it slowly, no thread, no presser foot and see if the feed dogs are going through their normal up and backwards movement to check this?

Have you got the manual to trouble shoot and find how to renegage the feed dogs if this is the cause. Sometimes it is a slide mechanicsm on the free arm or at the back of the main sewing area.

the feed dogs in the needle plate area are what moves the fabric while the presser foot hold the fabric
if the feed dogs are not up, check to see what position are in,,they should be in the bobbin area
if you can't move them they should be checked at a repair shop
