Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
Did you take the drive apart with a disc in it?
There are 2 little white "bars" that pop up when the disc is inserted most the time this happens when a drive is taken apart with a disc still in it and its not in the ejected state.
if you didnt take it apart then there is prolly a cd in there still and there is a problem ejecting, if you did take it apart here is how to reset everything to the right working state. sorry if its hard to follow.
to get it back to normal you need to reset it, if its under warrenty send it in cause the only way to fix this is by taking apart the ps3 and and the blu ray drive.
ussually this happens when a drive is taken apart with cd in and you remove the loading gears cover(the black piece with the levers and the wheels) off.
when you put this cover back on you need to make sure that the wheels are open all the way --- right wheels up and to the right, ..left wheels up and to the left. When its open like that you can see the gaps where those little white bars fit into just put it back on with it open and the bars in the gaps.
usually your looking at more steps though because the rest of the hinges on the lid wont line up. you can try to put the cover back on and eject and try loading an old or blank cd, blank because if something is off it may scratch it.
see if everything works.
if not you need to re-align everything to be in the ejected state. to do that you have to manually move the long black piece on the left side of the drive(with the cd inserting side facing you) and firmly but carefully push it twards the back of the drive and the laser should lower. it may make a poping noise if you go to far but should be fine its just the piece going to far out and poping off the gear. to test it push the cd guide wheels open and it should raise the laser and you can now lower it using the eject button. if it doesnt and you just hear a spinning gear gently nudge that long black piece on the left that you pulled back earlier towards the center of the drive and it should catch itself. after every thing raises and lowers fine make sure its in the ejected state and put the cover back on. should work now.
