"F21" is a Long Drain error code. This indicates that you have an obstruction in the drainage system. More than likely you probably have a clog in the drain pump. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r1484065-f21_error_code_whirlpool_duet_kenmore

Included is a follow-on link that explains how to check the drain pump to clean. You may also have to remove the inlet hose that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the inlet side of the drain pump. Debris can commonly clog in this area as well causing the drain cycle to fail.

NOTE: If these preliminary measures do not correct your problem, you may have to replace the drain pump. It does not take much to damage the pump impeller or motor. Since the error code is generated if the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump is damaged and can't pump at the required volume, the error code will continue to appear until the pump is replaced.
If you need to open the door but it remains locked, you can first attempt to unplug the washer for at least 30 minutes in an attempt to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). If the door remains locked, you can use the manual release to unlock and open the door. The following link explains how: http://www.fixya.com/support/r622155-kenmore_elite_whirlpool_duet_door_jammed If you have any questions about these procedures, or need additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you. NOTE: The Maytag Epic is manufactured by Whirlpool, so these procedures will apply to your washer.

This error occurs if the touch-pad/LED assembly is not able to transmit/receive data to/from the central control unit (CCU).
Possible Causes / Procedure 1. Check the touch-pad/LED assembly by selecting different cycles and changing the modifiers and options available to confirm the touch-pad/LED is responding. 2. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 3. Check wire harness connections to the touch-pad/LED assembly and Central Control Unit (CCU).

SOURCE: What does F21 mean on the Kenmore Elite Washer?

Check the drain line for kinks or obstructions. Check the pump. Remove the hoses from the pump and use a flashlight to look into the suction port. Look for anything clogging the pump (like the occasional stray sock) and check the pump impeller. Make sure there are no broken/missing blades and that the impeller will spin freely. If any blades are broken/missing or if you cannot get the impeller to spin freely, the pump is defective. Hopefully it's just a clogged pump, drain line, or a jammed impeller. Hope this helped and best wishes.

My magtag 5000 series washer is flashing error code F21, It was in the middle of a wash cycle and now the door is locked and it won't open. How do I at least get the door open. I have unplugged the

Unplug the washer. Then plug it back in and press the button that turns it off. This should unlock the door. Same thing happened on mine and there was a kink in the drain hose. Once I unkinked the hose, unplugged it, plugged it back in, turned it off, then I was able to run a drain & spin cycle to get the water out of the load that was in the washer. I then ran a full wash cycle (they'd gotten stuck in the first drain & spin cycle of a wash) and everything seems to be fine now.

Hi

It seems that something is clogged in the drain pump assembly and you have to clean it to solve this issue. After cleaning if the issue returns then test the door lock assembly, if bad it should be replaced. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Washer won't start cycle after door is closed

Try taking the top of the machine off and checking all of the electrical connections, including the one to the door lock. I have to do this about once a month with my machine and it seems to work.
