H 50HDT50 Plas, turned it on,it pop'd,no pic but still has sound

We have a Hitachi 50HDT50 Plasma, i just turned it on and heard a loud POP.  there is no picture but there is sound.  i see from another post that it may be a fuse or something on a board.  does anyone know if this is an expensive repair?  my husband has been out of work for 15 months and is away at the moment and returning next week.  i don't have the heart to tell him his favorite sports companion has died.  i was hoping to get it fixed quickly but if it is too expensive i may look for a used one or ?????

Nothing you did caused this problem. It's starting to be a common occurrence on many flat screen TV. Usually, a loud pop has to do with a bad capacitor or a mini transformer. Basically, it's a part on the circuit board that supplies power for the screen. Most TV repair shops will charge about $300 to $400 to replace the bad circuit board.

It's cheaper to find someone that has some electronic experience to repair the board itself with a $10 part. A service manual for the TV can be found at this web site link here. Should cost less that $20.

This manual will have everything the electronic tech needs for repairing the board. Part number lists, schematics, and diagrams for the TV.

I was watching my Hitachi 42hdm12 and heard a pop and now the picture won't show up or sound or anything?

A pop is usually a power surge and you blew a board. If you take the tv apart, if this is it, it will be evident by the burn marks. You could have burned out the internal power supply as well.

Watching TV and all of a sudden a loud pop came from the back of the set. Doesn't turn back on after unplugging.

Hello
Check its power supply regulator board. The pop sound you heard may be due to an explosion to any electrolytic capcitors on it. If the line voltage exceeds, this fault will happen. just repalce the damaged component. It is best to replace this board as card basis.

What happens when your plasma goes pop but there is sound and no picture

The pop you heard was probably the Y-sustain board. The "sound, but no picture" problem is common for plasma tv's. I fixed mine buy replacing both the Y-sustain board and the Z-sustain board. You can find both boards on ebay for around a total of $150.

Tv with no pic no sound on and off work

Hello mackenzie212, The loud pop you heard was most likely a capacitor exploding. I beleve the capacitor is also located in the power supply section of your TV. If you take the back off of the set you will see what can be described as a exploded, or bloated can. This component can be replaced, but I advise you to have it done by a qualified TV technician. This is due to the fact that their may be other unknown factors as to why the capacitor exploded, and a qualified TV technician can determine these causes past the obvious changing of the defective component. I hope this helps, Thank you, Shuttle83 http://www.electron-age-technologies-llc.com
