Please refer to this article How to Change the Cartridges on Lexmark Inkjet and All-In-One Printers. Note: The printer shown in the article may not be the same model as your Lexmark printer, however, the steps are the same.
Sometimes the ink cartridge carrier won't automatically move to its loading position even when the printer is on and the cover is open. Just unplug the printer from the power source. With the cover open, hold the solid white strip and gently slide the cartridge carrier to the center of the printer. Remove the used cartridges. Load the new cartridges. Close the cover. Plug the printer back to the power source.
I hope this information has been helpful. Thanks.

I purchased remanufactured ink cartridges through amazon.com. I got 4 for the price of 1 through Dell. After installing the first cartridge, it printed for a few days and then I got the same message "left cartridge incorrect". Unfortunately, I did not read the piece of paper that came with my cartridge that says "STOP" read this before you install the cartridge.
I had to throw out the cartridge that I had just installed and put in a new one and follow these steps:
1. If you recieve a pop-up message indicating that the cartridge has been depleted or a low ink level warning, please disregard.
2. Check "Don't display this dialog again" and click "ok" or "continue printing" if necessary.
3. In the printer status window, since you have already ordered ink, do not click the "order ink online" button. If you have the option, check "I have ordered my ink, please don't remind me again." If not, close the window and continue printing.
I'm not sure why, but these instructions were vital to getting my remanufactured cartridges to work.
I am posting this reply to hopefully help out the next person that has this problem. Unfortunately, I lost a perfectly good ink cartridge because I failed to read the instructions the first time. But the next one worked just fine when I followed the instructions. Good luck!
Hi Thanks for using FixYa. Turn the printer on. Now raise the
lid of the cartridge cage and wait for the cartridge carrier to slide out. Lift the
cartridge holder lid and remove the cartridge. Before installing the new
Cartridge, remove the tape from the ink opening point on the bottom. Now insert
the new cartridge into the cartridge case and close the cartridge holder lid.
Close printer cover. After doing all the above steps, print a test page.

Allow your inkjet printer to run entirely out of ink. Unless the quality of your images is suffering, there is no problem with letting your ink run low.
Step #12Open the printer door. It should fold from the top down toward the tray. When it is open, it should expose the inner workings of the printer.
Step #23Press the change cartridge button. It is at the top of the printer next to the power button.
Step #34Pull on the green top of the inkjet ink cartridge and remove it up and out of its holder. Do this gently so the printer is not damaged in the process.
Step#45#4Recycle the empty inkjet cartridge or have it refilled at an ink refilling center.
Step #56Carefully remove the tape from the refilled or new inkjet ink cartridge and insert the cartridge in the same orientation as the one you removed.
Step #67Push on the green top until the cartridge snaps into place, press the cartridge change button and close the printer door.
No, it not normal to only get two pages per cartridge. I would try the following before contacting Epson tech support:
-Remove the cartridges and clean the contacts on both the printer and cartridge.
-Reinsert each cartridge making sure it is seated correctly.
-Buy one black cartridge and install. It is possible that the cartridge is defective but since the magenta cartridge is showing low its unlikely. Tech support will want you to try it before they will replace the printer so you?re best off trying it now.
If after trying this steps there is no change and if you?ve had it for less than 7 days I would talk to your retail store. Usually they will just trade your defective unit for one in stock. If you have had it longer contact Epson support and explain what it happening and what you?ve done. Make sure you mention you?ve bought a new Epson black cartridge with no change.
