Question about Apple iBook G4 14-INCH Series M7701LL/A Laptop Bat Mac Notebook

G4 ibook works off charger, but not battery. battery at 75%

I'm baffled. I have a g4 ibook that works off the ac power supply but it does not work off the battery. The os indicates 75% charge and the system profiler knows when the battery is in and when it isn't. But ya unplug the ac cord from the wall and it goes black as night immediately. Tried the pmu reset to no avail. Been going on for a year. I had the case apart (to replace hinges) a week ago but found nothing loose under the hood. I have to admit it is driving me slowly insane.

Try removing the two screws by the battery connector.

My story:
I bought a dead ibook G4, when I got it the first thing I did was pressing the battery status button on the battery, it was dead allright. I figured it been stashed away for a while and bled out. So I hooked it up with the power adaptor, the connector turned orange telling me it was charging the battery, but the battery's indicator remained dead. I took it apart and found that someone less cunning put wrong screw (too long) in wrong place, namely by the battery connector shorting the anode on its' circuit board directly to the chassis. So when I took off the backside the battery indicator lit up.

Also checked the motherboard and found out that the battery connector didn't put out a charge voltage unless there is a battery to talk to, so it only shorted when there was a battery in the compartment. This seems a fit explanation for why yours won't turn on while there's a battery in the compartment :)

Replace your battery.
When a battery is dead, the charge level it reports is meaningless. When a battery reports a charge but still won't keep your machine running for more than 30 seconds, it's dead.
The fact that the OS knows when the battery is present or absent doesn't mean anything, as it it just reading the presence of the battery interface board.

I push the power and nothing happens on my ibook g4 14-inch

If you are not using the AC adapter (you are using only the battery), then the battery may be dead - simply replace the battery. If you are plugged into the wall, and the light on the power cord, where it meets the computer, is green, the unit is receiving power. If the unit is receiving power and it will not boot at all, then either the motherboard or the hard drive is most likely problem. You can replace the board, but it may end up being more expensive on an older G4 than it is worth. Once you are able to determine if the unit is receiving power, the only thing you can really do from there is take it to a repair shop and have them perform a test on the power supply, hard drive and/or the motherboard to see which one of those is causing the problem. If the hard drive is fine, you will most likely be able to recover your files.

I own a ibook G4 1.42 ghz and the battery no longer seems to charge when plugged in. I recently purchased a nupower battery and it worked great. Should I try an external charger?

I'd try another AC adapter first. It's not unknown for them to go bad and no longer deliver the power necessary to charge the battery. It's really unlikely for the charge circuitry internal to the iBook to go bad.

Powerbook G4 12" no video

Try this courtesy of your manufacturer
  1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
  2. Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
  3. Wait 5 seconds.
  4. Press the Power button to restart the computer.
If that doesnt work lemme know

My iBook G4 will not turn on though it has a full battery & is connected to a plug socket also..

There are several models of iBook G4. The following sequence applies to the "14-inch Early 2004."
Remove all peripheral cables. Remove the battery. Reset the power manager by pressing the key combination Control-Option-Shift-
power. Then plug the iBook into AC power and attempt to start it with the power key.
If this procedure does not being it back, invasive diagnostics are required, in which case you should being it to an Apple-Certified tech for repair.

Ibook g4 rebuild

Hi there.
Make sure you have the voltage and amperage right first before you try and power up the motherboard.
Most laptop motherboards run on 15, 19 or 20 volts and take a different amperage like 3.42A for example.
The power in will be displayed underneath the ibook so take a look there.
Don't plug a 24 volt power supply into it unless it specifies that because you could damage the board.

Good luck with project

My iBook G4 Won't Charge

Sir, to help you solve your problem I need a few details. 1. What is the input source?--in my country power input is 240V AC at 50 Hz.
2. What is the adapter config? Tha t is the 'mA' and 'V' rating on the adapter.
3. If it is a loose connection on the adapter(as it seems to be in your case) you can slap it and get some results for sometime. It that stops working, you will either have to open the adapter and fix the loose connection. Or get a new adapter(recommended)
I think, this is a prob with the adapter. Even if it is not the adapter, using an adapter that works in fits and starts will damage the battery in a long run.
Please change the adapter.
Also please rate this if it was helpful.
