I have the same problem but no solution. Inserting recharged NiMH, new NiMH batteries, and new alkaline batteries didn't cure my problem. I also tried to power up with no memory card inserted and with a memory card inserted using the various battery scenarios previously mentioned.

I did'nt drop it at all, but the lens just won't go back in , and i've only had the camera for a month. I guess i will just try calling customer support, since it's still under warranty, but i honeslty don't want a replacemet camrea, I WANT MY MONEY BACK, not that i've came to realize it's such a common problem.

    Is there a fix?

  • samanthaphi Nov 16, 2008

My daughter's camera had the same problem: lens is stuck open (visibly crooked), camera won't turn on, beeps three times and shuts off.

We gently nudged the camera lens back into place (heard a slight snap), and the problem was fixed.

NO! Mine did the exact same thing. Just take and try to easily move the camera lens while pushing to turn it on. The lens will go back in. Make sure you have good batteries though. But, this did fix it.

Hold the camera as if you were going to take a picture but down so you can see the lens, you'll notice it is crooked. It needs to be straight to go back in.

Try pulling out the lens gently and wiggle it just a little but not too hard you dont wont to break it :)

Your camera's problem is the lens itself. There is something making it stuck, this problem can't be repaired. Take it to Canon or a reliable camera store to get it fixed.

Insignia camera turns off with three beeps

The camera is trying to turn on, but either the lens is stuck, causing an overload in an effort to turn the motor that, through gears, extends the lens. That's a common problem, and the 2nd most common problem is that the batteries are not holding enough charge to drive the motor, contacts are dirty, things like that. There are 2 excellent web blogs that detail the problems, and what you can check and try. Here they are:

Good luck, and hope this helps.

My camera turns on then beeps 3 times then shuts off is it broken or is there a reset button?

The three beeps mean that the lens motor is unable to extend the lens assembly.
This could be due to a low battery situation, but the most likely cause is the lens drive train stuck or jammed. You'll find generic instructions on solving some cases of jamming here.

Unfortunately, more serious cases (due to falls, shocks, and most of all, the camera being turned on while some resistance prevents the lens from extending: e.g., if the camera accidentally turns on while in a pocket) require the repair shop.

Camera beeps and turns off and lens won't retract

Lens error / Battery expire.
1. Use a new battery will fully charged and then use it. Hope you get good result.

2. Some time lens zooming gear getting damaged by dust. if that gear is scrached by dust then your lens can't work and it will stucked. Your camera automatically turn off.

Of those 2 85% chance of poor/ long time used Battery & 15% chance of lens zooming gear damaged.

Thanks, i am waiting for your feed back & if you satisfied then thumps me please.

Polaroid i834 the camera beeps three times and turns off, then the lens got stuck out

There could be something obstructing the lens. Camera turns off if it can't extend and retract the lens. Turn it downward, try helping the lens in as you turn it on, try blowing compressed air around the lens itself, or if all else fails spraying around the base with a light dusting of CRT cleaner (90% isopropal alcohol spray)

It wont turn on, And the zoom is extended.

I had exactly the same problem. Lens stayed open, when powered on you get three beeps and nothing. I found when I pulled the lens out a little harder it gave a little click. When I powered on it worked perfectly.

Jammed camera

A temporary fix to power up is to press the menu and power button at the same time. When the lens is extended and it beeps, on my camera , the lens is *stuck* Give it a gentle tug , then try the power button again

Frozen lens and shutter

Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
