You did not post a brand name or model number of the unit. Is it an audio or a video receiver?
Does the unit have a speaker selection button/switch? Did you accidentally turn the speakers off? If it worked the first day and now doesn't, I am guessing some button/switch has been inadvertantly pushed.
If you just purchased this and the unit is new, I would return it to the store where I purchased it, in the original packaging, tell them what happened and ask for a new unit. Surely it would still be in warranty.
Contact Microsoft to receive some instructions over the telephone.
If the xbox is broken you'll receive an box from Microsoft and you've to send the xbox to Microsoft and wait for a few days.
You'll receive a fixed (sometimes a brand new xbox).
This happens with my cell phone all the time too, just have to go to manage phones and delete my phone then re-configure it and that seems to fix it for a while at least. Also night & day always has to be done manually, it won't change automatically that i'm aware of. I'm pretty sure i had to download some of the free voices from the TomTom Home or website initially, in any case i prefer to use my TomTom 720 without voice as becomes annoying listening all day nag nag nag blah blah blah.
Can you update the firmware on your unit
my k800i sony phone had a problem synchronising and would freeze, then one day the nuvi 660 updated the firmware by itself and has been fine since, only problem being the volume, a bit low when trying to contest with large diesel engine, onboard speaker keen to distort over 80% volume
