It may be worth repairing. GE dryers generally have drum glides that keep the drum quiet while it is spinning. More than likely the glides have worn out and now you have metal on metal scraping. If you post back with your complete model number, I can see if I can locate a part number and a price to give you an idea of what it might take to repair the dryer.

My roper dryer is squeaking. how do i stop this

you would have to see if the motor or something else is squeeking. remove front panel, take belt off motor, use a no heat cycle, and turn on machine. any squeeking? yes? then you need a motor...no? then you need a repair/maintnance kit for you dryer. it comes with new rollers, belt and tension pulley and this should get rid of all potentall squeeky parts. if you give me a model number then maybe i can get you the part number you need.

New GE Profile Dryer makes intermittent loud squeeking or rubbing

Your drum may be out of round. The drum belt on the outside of the drum may be rubbing against the cabinet. When the cabinet heats up, the side walls of the cabinet may be bowing inward, thus making contact with the belt on the drum. This would explain why it is intermittant. When the heater turns off, the cabinet cools and the sides bow back out.

Well I do not know which brand you have but I have pictorials on all kinds of dryers at my website. I am guessing yours is a GE. Check out my repair PICTORIAL.
Note: Not pictured is a WE3X75 bearing that goes on the rear of the drum and fits into the center hole pictured above.

Squeeky Noise

Raise top by prying lose clips on front, remove 2 screws holding front in place (inside cabinet) and disconnect wirings, removed front (panel with door) panel, removed 4 screws holding inside front panel in and lifted it out, released tensioner from belt, lifted out drum out of unit, vacuumed accumulated lint from machine, motor, wiring, checked and greased drum rollers and tension pulley, cleaned drum edge from accumulated roller debris using automotive brake rotor cleaner, reintsalled drum, applied automotive belt dressing to belt and reassembled. Working for now. If reoccurs I will replace drum rollers and tension pulley.
