Ignore the error if thats possible. Should not be a show stopper. Connect it wired to the computer and try to get into the routers web interface .
Thanks

I am having problems connecting VPN Connection on my Windows 7, it says there need to be a machine certificate installed before i can connect using L2TP/IPsec. error code :766

"Error 766: A certificate could not be found. Connections that use the L2TP protocol over IPSec require the installation of a machine certificate, also known as a computer certificate."

"Error 766: The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer could not authenticate the remote computer."

Cause: Connections that use the L2TP protocol over IPSec require the installation of a machine certificate, also known as a computer certificate. You will see this error message when such a certificate is not available.

Typically, this error is generated on a remote access server that has active L2TP ports configured, the remote access service started but there is no certificate in the computer certificate store. This generates an event log message that tells the administrator that L2TP ports will not be able to accept calls until a certificate is acquired and RRAS is restarted.
Resolutions: 1. If you use PPTP VPN, select Automatic in Type of VPN.
2. If you use L2TP, check the remote access server and make sure there is certificate in the computer certificate store.

New Laptop will not connect with wireless

try setting it on wep with 128bit encryption.. the new certificate programs doesnt do well with out it and aswell as it doesnt perform well on wap settings so a user-certificate based authentication would be optimal for the windows 7 and most secure aswell youtube, google, and your routers websites will help you get a firm understanding of how it works

One of our computers keeps saying it cant authenticate the certificate, what should i do?

I think you are trying to connect to the wireless network on a windows XP computer. The security on the wireless network must be WEP.

In this case you can remove the list of preferred networks on the computer.
Add the network manually.
If this is the only wireless computer then change the wireless settings of the router.

I cant get a wireless connection on my IBM R40 using a Linksys G

I had the same problem with my R40 (2681) and a Linksys G router. The specs on IBM's/Lenovo's site indicate that the wireless card in the R40 only handles certain types of wireless encryption. The newer types (e.g. WPA) won't work on it and they are usually the standard on routers nowadays. My Linksys G router works fine with the R40 with WEP or with no encryption. Not ideal, but that's life with an old laptop.

One works fine the other says cannot connect looking for windows certificate

Check for the updates of the Windows certificate on the other.
If Windows OS Open Internet Explorer go to Internet Options then to Content and Check Certificates and change it to all and in Advance option in the same page Leave Client authentication and Secure Email unchecked and all the other option should be checked.

Cant find certificate for wireless

To fix, you go into the properties page of your wireless connection, go to "Wireless Networks" tab and then to Properties of the chosen wireless network you are trying to connect to. Then go to "authentification" tab and untick the box saying "Enable IEEE802.1x to the availiable network" and that should solve your problem

CAN'T CONNECT TO WIRELESS ROUTER WITH LAPTOP.

Temporarily disable all security on the router AND your laptop wireless card and try again to test connectivity.

The exact error message should be:
"Windows was unable to find a certificate to log you
on to the network [SSID]"

This is caused by setting the encryption to WPA-RADIUS instead of WPA-PSK on the client radio. Both the router and the client are
trying to find a RADIUS server with which to authenticate your system.
Switch the encryption to WPA-PSK (pre-shared key) on both ends and it should30924e8.jpg work.

Also check to make sure that IEEE 802.1x authentication on the wireless network properties Authentication tab is disabled.
