1 Answer

I have a model 590 fridge. There's a flex tube inside behind the drawers that darins down to the bottom. It seems that it keeps clogging up. The water backs up and leaks into the fridge, under the drawers and leaks out onto the floor. How to correct this ??? It's a Sub zero 590 side by side NOT A 690

Ice on bottom of freezer floor. Turned off fridge so it could completely thaw. Should I do anything else?

We have the same fridge, we just had the same problem, and followed the instructions found on this website. Probably a clogged drain pipe/tube.
After following these instructions, my husband found a chunk of debris in the tube along with a piece of plastic wire tie that was the probable cause of our issue - here is a copy of what we did last night. (The end of the tube has a little rubbery opening that drips into a pan at the base of the rear of the freezer - the beginning of the tube is behind the grill on the back wall of the freezer, have to put the wire through the grill and into the hole - we put the wire up from the bottom and down from the top to be sure to get the clog)
Remove all the drawers in the freezer - and stack them up.
With the unit switched off and unplugged, undo the fixings on the rear pannel in the freezer (behind the drawers)
Remove it to see the evaporator coils etc.
At the base there should be a channel - and a hole leading to the drain pipe. This needs unblocking wih a thin flexible cable. -net curtain support wire is ideal, and cheap. or use a short length of insulated cable.
Check it comes out at the rear of the unit onto the evaporator container - situated on top ofthe compressor.
Replace everything and switch on.

I have the subzero 632 side by side and there is water dripping from under the bottom drawers onto the bottom of frig and then onto floor. Could that be the rubber gasket stripping on the bottom of the...

Hi,

Behind the crispers and the shelves at the bottom is a drain trough. This drain trough is clogged and would need to be cleared by air pressure. You can use canned air you can seal the opening to keep the pressure in the tube. Once cleared you should be fine.

This happens when food or foreign object get into this trough clog or slow water flow out of the fridge section.

I hope this helps.

My refrigerator has a leak behind the drawers on the inside . I have since had to put a towel at the bottom of the drawers or it will start leaking down the front and onto the floor every couple of days....

Moisture condenses out of the cold air inside the fridge. Many refrigerators have a drain tube in the bottom to allow the condensate to run into a drip tray under the refrigerator (behind the trim panel on the bottom) where it evaporates. Over time this tube can get clogged by food particles and the water backs up, eventually running over the bottom edge onto the floor. You can use a straightened out coat hanger or other stiff wire to clear it out. This should get the water back into the tray where it belongs.

There is an ice build-up underneath the humidity control drawers and the food in the drawers is freezing. It is a model RB 215 LABB. We have adjusted the temperatures of both the freezer and the fridge,...

The problem isn't the humidity control or temperature control. When the refrigerator automatically defrosts it goes through a cycle of heating and melting the ice build-up then drains this water to a tray at the bottom of the refrigerator (underneath). The drain tube that lets this water flow down to the bottom tray freezes so the ice begins to build inside the refrigerator section.

The solution to this is to defrost the tube so water can flow again. There are heating coils in the freezer section behind the plastic in the back that you must remove and defrost.

This is an inherent problem with a lot of refrigerator/freezers. You should probably have your refrigerator serviced and to check the heating capability of the coils to keep this tube from freezing. Otherwise put this on your monthly schedule of manually defrosting.

I'm trying to find an inside diagram for my fridge FPE21TMW1. I believe the drain tube is clogged and I need to access it. Not the freezer but behind the meat drawer. Thanks g

Wont get much info there.(manual). Suggest you defrost fridge overnight then locate the drain tube behind the fridge on top of the compressor. Blow into the pipe aggressively until blockage is clear. When clear, switch back on and presto.

Maytag fridge water dripping from inside freezer side

This sounds like the evaporator drain may be clogged either in the freexer compartment or at the outlet to the drain pan under the unit. Every defrost cycle the defrost element makes water by melting the ice on the evaporator coils. If the drain is clogged there is no other place for the ice to go. Many times the drain may just have ice buildup in the evaporator drain funnel that can be corrected with a manual defrosting.

To do this manual defrosting all you do is first unplug the unit then remove everything from the freezer compartment. After that place a fan blowing into the freezer section for a little over 2 hours. Please NOTE this will make more of that pesky water mess so be ready to tend to the mess as it presents itself.

After the 2 hour fan session plug the unit back in and reload the freezer compartment with previous content. Monitor for the possibility of the water manifeting itself again.

In addidtion to the above there is a drain pan catch basin in the bottom of the unit near the compressor. They are usually white plastic on Maytag units and not to rugged. Make sure that the drain pan is not loaded with debris. There is about a 1/2 inch diameter opaque plastic line that drains into the catch basin. That is the Evaporator darin tube. Ensure the very end of the tube does not have caked up debris in the very end of the tube. Sometimes this tube cakes up and then the debris dries hard inside the tube near the end. Make sure the tube is free of foreign objects and clean.

After all of the above / cleaning and clearing / manual defrosting it is still making water then most likely the lower panel under the defrosting element / evaporator may have become disconnected allowing defrost cycle water from the melted ice into the freezer compartment vs exit via the drain. To fix the disconnected power metal panel problem the rear freezer panel would have to removed to re-attach / repair the metal panel that guides the water into the evaporator drain.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Collecting water at bottom of frig inside under drawers.

begin by removing the grill on the front at floor level. look under there and you will see the evaporation pan. next pull the fridge out from the wall so you can get behind it. there you will see the tube. to unclog it you will have to disconnect it at the top and force hot water into it using a turkey baster.

Refrigerator leaking water

This sounds like the water line from the icemaker and the cool water reservior inside the refridgerator side. The line is a rigid plastic hose and could be a leak at one point that is small enough to allow water to run along the line. Also sounds like you have a humidity problem. Check the door seals and wipe them off and apply a thin coat of die-electric grease to the seal. this will help keep it pliable and soft.
The water in the bottom leaks into a trough that is made into the fridge. This usaully evaporates, This is for the auto-defrost. It keeps the water from getting on the floor.
Check to see if the outer door gets hot at the edges. If not, It may not be auto-defrosting.
I would first check the water line first as this seems to be a more serious issue right now. The line is probably loose at one of the connections between the ice maker and water reservior.

Clogged fridge drain tube

The drain is behind the back panel in the freezer at the bottom. Sounds like it is frozen over which is pretty common. Will need to remove panel and thaw out drain by running hot water down. You can use a putty knife to break up ice first. Make sure you get all ice around the drain above and below the thin aluminum tray at the bottom. After the drain is free don't be alarmed if you get some water on the floor because the drain pan may not hold all of the water you ran down the drain. Not anything you can do to prevent this on this model.
