When the amplifier shows an offset fault, it's generally because there is DC voltage present on the speaker terminals. The amp has shut down to protect the speakers.

Please help I had a sony str km3000. no power please help need aservice manual

You unit has a condition known as DC Offset, which displays as protect. This offset condition is presented to the microprocessor IC(a computer within your Sony). This IC will not let you turn the unit back on until the problem is corrected. If you are interested in repairing your Sony, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. Thank you.

When I turn on the power, a PROTECT display appears, then powers back off. Why?

First, check all your speakers connections in back, to make sure there are no wires touching from positive to negative(red to black terminals). Secondly, find the reset procedure in your owner's manual. It may say, "Return to Factory Defaults, or simply Reset" If that still doesn't work, the meaning of "Protect", is shown when you have DC Offset(meaning a damaged amplifier) The receiver is switched on and off, by a microprocessor IC(a computer within your unit) If the amplifier detects this DC Offset, the microprocessor will not allow the unit to be turned on.

I you require more assistance, or would like to inquire about having your unit repaired, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. You may contact me there. Thank you.

1. What type of head unit are you using
2. does the head unit have a Loud feature?
- Sometimes you have to press the loud button on certain head units to engage the amplifier.

Try disconnecting your remote wire from the amplifier, grabbing a piece of small 12 or 16 gauge wire and bridging the remote wire with the (+) on the amplifier. if your light does not turn green, then check your fuse and the ground for the amplifier itself and the subwoofers.

When you connect the remote wire to the (+) it should automatically turn the amplifier on even if the cd player isnt on. The reason I want you to try to connect the remote and power is because sometimes the remote wire for the cd player is bad. If it does end up being a bad remote wire from the head unit, then your best fix would be to connect the red wire (ignition 12v) on your head unit to an on/off switch to the remote on your amplifier. You can then turn your amplifier on and off by flipping the switch. If you go to autozone or advanced auto parts you can pick up a toggle switch for about $3.00.

Linking an i pod to a Sony CDX-MP40 using the bus input terminal

Some Sony head units let you use the Bus audio inputs as an auxiliary source input, but yours is not among them. To play your iPod through the head unit, you'll either need an iPod interface module: http://www.xplodsony.com/xplod/accessories/XA-110IP or an auxiliary input module: http://www.xplodsony.com/xplod/accessories/XA-300 The iPod interface will allow you to control and display the iPod directly through the head unit, while an auxiliary input adapter will allow the iPod to play through the head unit using the iPod's controls and display.
