Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I WAS ON YESTERDAY WITH THE SAME APPLIANCE A JENN AIR REFRIGERATOR JCD2389GEB. I NEED TO START AT THE BEGINNING. EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS MY REFRIGERATOR ON TH ICE BOX SIDE WOULD GET WARM THE FREEZER WAS COLD AND ICE WOULD BUILD UP ON THE COILS, SO I WOULD DEFROST IT WITH MY HAIR DRYER. THAT WOULD LAST ABOUT THREE WEEKS. OUR FRIEND WHO DOES SOME WORK ON A/C AND APPLIANCES SAID IT WAS LOW ON FREON SO HE ADDED IT LAST WEEK. EVER SINCE THEN OUR ICE MAKER HAS NOT MADE ICE, THERE IS KNOW WATER. HE SAID HE HAD POWER TO THE ICE MAKER BUT KNOW POWER BACK TO THE SOLENOID. WE HAVE WATER TO THE WATER DISPENSER.HE ALSO ADDED FREON LAST NIGHT BECAUSE MY FREEZER WAS AT 30 DEGREES. I CAME HOME TODAY AND THE FREEZER DOES NOT FEEL VERY COLD. THE FEW THING IS HAD IN THERE THAWED OUT, I ALSO CHECKED THE COILS AND THEY A SWEATING AND WATER WAS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE FREEZER. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE PERFERED SUCTION PRESSURE IS WHEN THE FREEZER IS 30 DEGREES AND WARMER. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ALSO ORDERED A NEW ICE MAKER BUT I READ THE FREEZER HAS TO BE AT LEAST 12 DEGREES FOR THE ICE MAKER TO WORK.

What you started out with was a defrost issue, adding freon made your problem worse, pressure on the low side when fully charged should be around 0 to 3 lbs.
the most common problem with theses units is the adaptive defrost control sits in the refrigerator section top right corner above the white plastic cover.part # 61005988 runs about $70.
Second most common defrost issue is the defrost thermostat # 61006199 runs around $45 comes wired in with the heater assy sits behind the wall in the back of the freezer. But first you need to get someone to evacuate the system and put in the right charge it will be on the model number tag on the ceiling of the fridge it's somewhere between 4 and 6 onces not pounds.

You are going to have to get the drain good and clean. Take a turkey baser and force hot water down the drain until water flows freely. Once water is flowing freely mix water and baking soda and pour it down the drain. I hope this helps.

Water is leaking underneath the freezer side. Not continually, but couple days a week. I have newspaper under it now.

Clean the drain pan and drain line in the back of the freezer section behind the back cover and underneath the evaporator coil. (hint: use turkey baster with hot water) Make sure water drains when you pour it in. If it doesn't - also clean drain tube on the back of the unit behind the cover. When done - make sure to put the tube exactly where it was.
Good luck! :)
