If the machine is not spinning or agitating and you are getting a humming sound the the motor coupling is probably out... lean the machine back and look in between the motor and transmission... you either see two round plastic pieces sandwiching a rubber piece, or you'll see chewed up rubber and broken plastic... these machines don't have belts... this motor coupling acts as the "belt"

There is no belt on this washer. It uses a motor coupling in place of a drive belt. More than likely the motor coupling has broken and requires replacement. If the washer will fill, will not agitate or spin, but will still drain, these are the symptoms of a broken motor coupling. This is a very simple and inexpensive repair. The following link explains step-by-step how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385252-replacing_motor_coupling_whirlpool_top

The part number is included in the link I provided. You can purchase a replacement on line at appliancepartspros.com for about $11.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Washer only makes a humming noise

HI,

It doesn't agitate If your washer doesn't agitate, check these:

Lid switch
Motor coupler
Belts
Clutch
Drive motor
Drive pulleys
Transmission
Agitator
Lid switch If the lid switch is defective, the washing machine may not agitate or function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

Motor coupler Many washers produced by Whirlpool® use a small, relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. If this happens, you need to completely replace it.

Belts Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer. (Some washing machine belts are designed with special characteristics not found in automotive belts.)

Clutch If your washer was made by GE®, it may use a clutch for agitating the clothes. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the washer from agitating well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it. For this job, you probably want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician.

Drive motor Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor.

Drive pulleys The motor or transmission drive pulley may be worn and unable to turn the drive belt. If so, replace the pulley.

Transmission The transmission could have either of these problems:

  • Older washers produced by Whirlpool® have a transmission with an electro-mechanical shifter. If the shifter becomes even partially defective, the unit may not agitate properly or at all.

  • The transmission may have a worn or broken gear, or some other internal problem.

If you suspect a transmission problem, you may have to call a qualified appliance repair technician to repair it.

Agitator The inside of the agitator--where the transmission shaft attaches--can become worn, and strip out the spline that allows the agitator to properly grip the shaft. Then the transmission shaft rotates back and forth as it should, but the agitator doesn't move properly. If this happens, you may need to replace the agitator and/or the transmission spline.

WILL NOT AGITATE, SPIN OR DRAIN. WASHER FILLS WITH WATER, HOWEVER, WHEN AGITATOR CYCLE BEGINS, MOTOR HUMS AND BELT WILL NOT MOVE.

Open the back cover and start the washing cycle. When the agitator cycle begins check if the motor rotates. If it does not and the humming sound comes there is problem is withe motor. Also check the tightness of the belt. Even if it is loose it does move but it is slippery movement unless it is completely loose. Anyway the problem is with your motor and the connecting bearing/pulley. You have to ask a technicians to help you out

Whirlpool mach. is humming when u turn on but agitator won't move

Hello friend,
The spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this is the problem, you usually hear a loud sound during the spin cycle. Call a qualified appliance repair technician.
In case of the agitator not moving check the following:
Motor coupler
Many washers produced by Whirlpool® use a small, relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. If this happens, you need to completely replace it.
Belts
Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer.

Check the above, It seems that your washer needs a repair and would not be possible to do it yourself. So yau will have to call a technician.

Do feel free to get back to us in case of any other assistance if problem is not solved or if you have any other query.

Thanks

Washing machine was making noise when agitating & spinning

This sure sounds like a bad transmission. Turn the transmission by hand to feel and listen to it. It should be smooth and quiet.

Cabrio washer wont drain

Hello, LD stands for long drain.
If all the water isn't out of the unit within a certain time, the ld will flash.
Could be 2 things.

1) There's lint stuck in the pump preventing the water to drain properly or

2) You're using too much soap causing lots of suds also preventing the pump from draining properly. If this is the case, what you need to do is run the washer on full load with no detergent and clothes. Let it go thru the cycle and get rid of eccess suds. This is most likely your problem.

Best of luck :)

Water gets drained when it passes the washing cycle on the knob ? do you hear the motor humming ? like it wants to start? if no sound from motor then check the sensor switch located under the top of washer where door closes, it could be loose or defective, if you hear sound coming from motor , check the belt ,if belt OK, then MOTOR need to be replace, hope this info helps , AJ
