Disconnect Power. Lift Cover on lint filter. Remove two Phillips screws taking care NOT to allow them to fall into the blower housing. Place putty knife in the seam between the top and front panel about 2” in from either side. Push in on clip while pulling control panel forward and tilting putty knife handle up, all at the same time. Same on opposite side. Raise top all the way.

Looking down inside dryer on left and right see a 5/16” hex head screw about 6 inches down. Remove each side while holding front panel in place. Pull top of front panel about 3 inches forward from sides and then pull up. This will disengage the front panel from lower pressure clips and allow you to turn it sideways and expose the dryer interior. Reverse process to re-assemble. Take careful note of belt configuration BEFORE removing it. Draw a diagram of its travel.

Motor and idler pulley for dyer will be on right. If you decide to change your own motor remember to write down what color wires go to what # terminals before removing any wires from the motor. This style of dryer has a fan blower threaded onto one end of the motor shafts, the fan blower is a left hand thread. See this picture link for how to get the fan blower off of the motor shaft. Angle the motor exactly as you found it. Rotating it may cause it to scrape against the drum.

Reverse Process for reassembly.

Dryer turns on but drum will not spin

Sounds like the belt is bad or the motor needs to be replaced. Unplug unit. When you open it up get a block of wood (a piece of 2x4 works) if your units are stacked on top of each other, pull the dryer towards you approx 2inches. You are going to push on the top of the dryer and insert the board underneath the dryer. The reason you pulled the dryer forward was to keep the dryer from slipping backwards while working on it. Now check the two bottom corners on the front of they dryer.occasionally there are screws holding the kick plate. Take these off, pull out and down and look for broken belts. Be sure to vacuum any loose lint while you have the unit open. Good luck.

Dryer has power. control lights working. when you press the start button the only sound is a humming noise. will not start.

Check your drive belt which is located around the outside of the drum. The "hummmm" you hear sounds like the motor running. Normaly this motor provides the power to the belt which surrounds the outer surface of the drum (where u put the cloths)........ the belt wraps around the outside of the drum, then around a small pully mounted on the shaft of an electrical motor normally located just below the drum on the inside of the outer enclosure. This motor will be mounted to the the dryer's frame by a mounting plate. This motor mounting plate will pivot (like a hinge)..... it will also have an extension spring hooked to it which provides tension to the drive belt when properly looped around the pulley on the drive motor. When the belt breaks or snaps....... the drum stops spinning..... however the drive motor still runs. Thats the noise you hear! Diss-assemble outer sheet metal providing access to drive belt and replace with correct belt recommended for your model dryer. Caution should be used during repair........ ALWAYS UNPLUG POWER CORD PRIOR TO SERVICING ALL/ANY APPLIANCE's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need a diagram for a Kenmore gas dryer drive belt. How do you string it around the idler pulley?

wrap the belt around the drum with the smooth side up not touching the drum then pinch the belt together, pull it under the pulley and wrap it on the motor, the belt will separate when you wrap it on the motor shaft....copy and paste, watch the video..........http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpUqCrLaI7g

I am wanting to replace a drum bearing, and I've gotten the dryer top panel and front panel off, but I don't see how to release the drum belt (which is okay) so I can get the drum out. How to do...

On the bottom left side next to the motor you will see a small plastic wheel (idler pulley) which the belt is wrapped around. The wheel is attached to a L-shaped piece of metal which is known as an idler spring arm which is made out of spring steel.

Move the arm one way or the other and you will notice the belt tension getting looser. Push the arm further that way until you can get the belt off the pulley an motor. Use caution as the spring arm has torque on it and could snap back.

Once the belt is off the motor and idler pulley you can then pull the drum out. You will need to lift the drum up slightly since the back sits on drum wheels(the groove on the back of the drum). Take the drum and belt out together.

Once you have made the repairs, install the drum in reverse order.

Note: Before removing the belt, make a diagram of how the belt goes around the motor and pulley for future reference.

Hope this helps you out.

Does a Kenmore Series 80 have a drum belt . The dryer does not spin. Can't find the drum belt

Yes, it has a drum belt. If you can't see the belt wrapped around the exterior of the drum, more than likely it has broken and is wrapped around the drive motor shaft, or lying on the interior cabinet bottom. If the dryer still heats, but the drum does not turn, this is probably why. Please post back with your model number (located on a nameplate around the door opening) and I can tell you how to access it and/or replace it.

How to wrap belt around belt and drum tensioner

These are a pain to do. You have to put the belt around the drum and at the motor, there is a pulley on a spring device.Twist the pulley toward the motor, until you can get the belt onto the motor pulley. Release the spring loaded pulley and it will automatically tighten the belt.

Usually the belt is a single piece that wraps around the entire drum. The fact that you smelled something and that you feel the clothes are not being tossed tells me that the belt was slipping on the pulley of the motor that drives the drum. This will heat up the belt causing the smell. If the belt gets too loose, this will happen. I'd replace the belt, and I think you'll be back in action.

Let me know what happens. Please rate accordingly.
