Question about Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

2006 Dodge Stratus STX - the check engine light stays on. It is in the shop & compression test done: 3 are 160 lbs., number 4 is 60 lbs. This car has less than 99,000 miles. All spark plugs were changed and light went out. Next day it came on. While driving on the highway the speedometer went down to 0 & when I pressed on the gas peddle the engine ribbed up and the car slwed down. Pulled over and turned engine off waited about 1 hr and turned ignition on car started and light back on drove car home. Please advise why the light is coming on. There is an exhaust leak that is being repaired.

The key here is the cyl no 4 low compression, this could have fouled the spark plug again.

Do you have either a tapping or ticking noise?

Will the heads have to be pulled in order to check so see if it is a valve that is causing low compression? How long can you drive on a p0303 ?

Low compression does not require head removal. Do a compression test on a cylinder, then squirt some oil in the spark plug hole. Do the compression test on that cylinder again. If the compression goes up then the rings are worn. P0303 is a misfire in cylinder 3. This lets unburnt gas into the catalytic convertor. The cat can overheat, melt and be ruined. If the check engine light is blinking don't drive the car. A misfire is either no gas, no spark or low compression. The quivering light can be from idle or failing alternator. Put the probs of a multimeter on the battery posts. Set the meter to volts dc. Start the car the voltage should be between 13 and 14.6 volts. Anything more or less points to an alternator problem.

Check engine light 2006 dodge stratus sxt

take it somewhere else like to an accredited professional service center and have a proper diagnosis done
the first step is a reading of the fault codes
next is a compression test to determine engine condition and gasket problems
I think that a fault code reading by a competent operator will reveal the problem areas and I don't think an engine overhaul is the answer

Engine light on. it is running really rough. had a diagnostic test done it said four possible things. it said my 3rd spark plug was bad so i changed it and then changed others as well and the wire but it...

You don't ever change any parts

You learn how the systems work &
component test them

You will change every part on the car &
still learn nothing or fixed a thing

I suggest you have a repair shop do the
proper testing, to at least find the issues

I know what you said & they were not of
any help to you, unless you know what was
tested,how & why & they want your money ,
so don't expect them to give you much, so
you can work on it

Then you can come home & resolve with
maybe one part,a vacuum hose or other
repair

Cylinder 1 misfire dodge stratus 2006

if you have a cylinder #1 misfire it could be one of several things. It could be a faulty spark plug, faulty ignition coil, faulty injector or worst case, bad compression in that cylinder. The most likely problem is probably a faulty ignition coil for that cylinder

One way to test that is to swap that coil to another cylinder and see if the miss goes to the other cylinder. If it does then problem solved. Replace that coil

How do i check to see if the timing belt is broke 4 cyl

When a timing belt breaks the engine will lose compression and the starter will spin it as if the spark-plugs were out (very fast). The acid test is to take compression readings on all cylinders, very low or no compression on all cylinders indicates a broken belt.

Hello i really need some help badly!! i have a 2006 dodge stratus my engine light is on & it blinks when i am like sitting at a redlight the codes said p302 cylinder 2 misfire we have replaced the...

Hi, other possibilities are the ignition wire, the injector, or a burned valve. First I would pull the wire up from the plug to see if I could hear sparks jumping. If no sparks, replace wires. If wire was good, next make sure the injector is clicking when the engine is running. If it isn't clicking, the problem is either a failed injector or the wiring. Pull the connector and probe the terminals with an AC voltmeter to see if it's getting a signal (if not, replace the injector). If it's clicking, it may be clogged. You can pull up the fuel rail with injectors attached and then crank the engine to see if the injector is pulling out gas like the others are. Before doing this, it may be less work to run a compression test to see if you have a burned valve. If the engine fails a compression test on cylinder 2, you will need to pull the cylinder head off for repair. If the compression is good, then I would pull up the fuel rail to check the injector.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6715318-causes_gasoline_engine_misfires . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck, please get back to me.

2006 Dodge Stratus Check engine light

Small vacuum leak to start in evap system, which can quite often be traced back to gas cap. I'd clean gas cap seal good & add a little Vaseline, to the rubber "O" ring on cap, and wipe surface where cap screws in real good & clean, then have codes erased, or disconnect battery for a few seconds, and then see if it comes back. Make sure you put cap on tight after adding fuel.
