I would like to know how to remove the neck from an old 1940 upright Epiphone B3 bass.

Brassmonkey is in the bussiness of repairing basses not telling people how to repair. I talked to Brassmonkey a year ago. If the solution was easy I wouldn't need you guys. As I understand it the Epiphone bass neck is not made like the Kay or Englehardt. I need to know if the Epiphone has a dove tail or is it blocked with shims. Do I need to steam the hide glue before the neck will come out, if so how much steaming is required? Do I saw the top of the back to the depth of the neck? How hard do I tap the neck? etc.

I have an upright bass. Like the ones that Bluegrass people play. It is a 1940 Epiphone B3. It is not a handheld bass.

If there is not a removable neck device installed - it is not possible.
The neck is incorporated to the backpiece with adhesive and not separately removable.
If it is removable - there will be evidence of a screw, or knob at the bottom of the neck (backside) - and simply slides out of the body.

Are you restoring it? or trying to remove it for transportation?
If restoring - the glue must be painstakingly softened - the varnish will be ruined, and it is recommended to seek the advice of a professional string instrument repairman.

Thanks for using FixYa!!

How to adjust truss rod on fender duff mckagan bass

The truss rod adjustment is on the body end of the neck, not at the headstock.
    You need to;
    remove the strings
unscrew the neck from the body
    Make a small adjustment
    Re-attach the neck
    Re-string the bass
    rinse and repeat until satisfied

Epiphone sheraton 2 has broken neck tuner section

That is near fatal... you might find a Luthier that could repair it. I have repaired three broken neck instruments myself, an acoustic bass, acoustic hollow body, and a banjo... it is NOT fun and requires great care. The strains on the neck from string tension cause a lot of force that tries to re-break the neck.

I am looking for a manual (if there is one) for the Epiphone Sheraton II. I need to know which knobs do what (and also the three way switch) on the guitar. The guitar came with no manual!!

Most likely it is wired like most Gibsons. The volume knobs are the two at the neck end, the tones are the two nearest the rear. The lower two are volume and tone for the bridge pickup, the upper two are for neck pickup. Switch down is bridge or lead pickup, switch up is for neck or rythym pickup, and centre position is both pickups one, where all knobs can be used together.

The problem is probably NOT due to humidity, but thermal expansion of the metal truss rod in the neck... You need to maintain the temperature within reasonable limits, say in the 60 to 80 degree F range at all times.

My guitar has is an epiphone les paul but it also says gibson directly above the nut. what does this mean?

Epiphone is a budget conscious gibson. And probably not made in the USA.
1957 - Gibson's parent company, CMI, buys Epiphone for $20,000, originally intending to harness its upright bass operation, but ultimately reviving the Epiphone name on guitars. A full line of newly designed acoustics and electrics is unveiled in 1958, and two years later Epiphone production moves into Gibson's factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

1970 - In the face of foreign competition, Epiphone production is moved to Japan. Through the 1970s and early '80s, the Epiphone line has little continuity, although it maintains respect as a quality import brand.

1983 - Epiphone production is moved to Korea.

1986 - Henry Juszkiewicz, David Berryman and Gary Zebrowski acquire Epiphone and Gibson. The Epi line is soon expanded to include traditional models like the Sheraton, Emperor and Howard Roberts, along with Epi versions of Gibson classics like the Les Paul, Flying V and Explorer.
