Question about JVC Televison & Video

1 Answer

Hi. I have a JVC tv model AV27430, and the picture is often too dark to be able to see the show. I've adjusted the brightness from the Menu to no avail. A repair person said that there is a brightness adjustment inside the tv. Where can I find instructions to take the case apart and fix the brightness? It's out of warranty. Thank you.

What he was refering to is called the "FLYBACK"

It is a voltage regulation circuit that has 2 controls, 1 for brightness or "GAMMA" and one for focus.

WARNING:: TV'S HAVE HIGH VOLTAGE THAT CAN KILL YOU

To locate your flyback simply remove the back from your tv and look at the main tube, off the main tube will be a cord that looks like it comes from the top inside of the tube and goes down to a circuit board, that is the flyback, and if you look on it it should have 2 turn knobs or potentiometers , some manufactures glue these in place but the glue is easily removed. 1 of the 2 is the brightness, it's eisier to put a mirror up so you can see what your doing other than ask someone to tell you.

This is a picture of a flyback outside of the TV

Super Cool Dudes! I am a happy camper now!! Let me add a little bit to this post. I have the jvc av27530 which is very similar. I followed the Jolly Roger00 and found it's even easier AND SAFER than that.

Removing the back revealed that the "Gamma and Focus Pots" are accessible from the rear of the set in normal working condition with the back on! There are two 1/2 inch vertical slots on the right side of the patch bay that look like ventilation. So I put the back back on. Obviously because I'm not DEAD. **** out the gunk from the slots with a shop vac and shine a flashlight in there and you'll see the head of the pots. On the AV27530 the bottom slot is the Gamma. Don't get aggressive, just get the correct screw driver. If your arms are long enough you can park the driver on the screw and skootch your head around to the front to see the results. (Short people may need a mirror!) I lightly turned it both directions for testing and Eureka!! Then I slowly spun it twice from full on to full off for cleaning purposes.

Reset your remote and put all the sliders to the center position before you decide on a position of the Gamma Pot. I found that the remote adjustments reset on the standard setting was the best choice. This TV may last a couple more years when I thought It was Dead!!

There will be a control panel on the TV, usually on the side of the TV. You can use these buttons to enter the menu and adjust picture brightness. You can find an inexpensive universal remote easily.

In many many cases this is an indication of a failing picture tube. The gun assembly in the neck of the picture tube is shorting. There is a fix, but this is surely last resort and the final cure may not provide a fix. Picture tube rejuvenation is not always successful. I would certainly opt for a new TV. Thanks for asking, and show a few hands of support!

Picture on tv JVC 27" AV-27530 is getting to dark to enjoy. During dark scenes you can't see much. Have tried adjusting controls and settings to no avail. Any solution greatly appreciated.

I have the AV-27S33 model and in the rear to the right of the inputs are two slits and inside these slits are two screws. The top screw is the focus, the bottom the brightness.Your tv is a different model but it may have this same adjustment,if it does try turning the bottom screw to the right to increase the brightness.

Picture getting dark

My jvc 27" tv was so dark I could hardly see any night scenes, even with the bright all the way on. If you push the sleep button, let go, then hold down the video and display (together), the service menu will come on. Scroll down to #7 (too dark) and adjust the brightness there. Works immediately. Good luck.
