I broke a metal line in my old fridge that was not working and now some gas/air is leaking out. what is this? is it bad?

The EPA thinks that it is very bad. Really It will stop when all the freon gets out of it about 12 to 14 ozs. it won't take long. No more than it is it won't hurt anything.
