Question about GE Refrigerators

GE PSS25MGMCAA refrigerator - Bad circuit board??

I have a GE PSS25MGMCAA refrigerator. I think the circuit board is bad. The fans run, but not the compressor. Based on one of the posts on this site, I jumped the COM and Line terminals and the compressor ran. I also notice on the back side of the circuit board, one of the compressor solder terminals is slightly black. I suspect the board is bad. Do you agree? Is it possible just to replace the compressor relay on the board? I don't want to burn up a new board, does this sound like just a bad board/relay, or do you think something else caused the board/relay to fail? Thanks for any help you may offer. Jim

You need to change the board . Part number WR55X10656 . The board relay , cannot be changed . Power surges , dirty condensor coils , and usage , are the most common causes , for board failure .

What causes the coils behind the panel in the freezer to freeze up and stop the freezer fan? top half of freezer defrosts, lower half stays cold.Fridge is side by side and freezer fan keeps turning of

When the evaporator fan motor stops running the top half of the back wall of the freezer will frost over and the the only reason the lower portion stays cool is because cold air falls. More than likely you have a a dc motor fan and its bad, but be wary with ge, the main control board could also go bad causing the fan not to run.

Unit not cooling down, compressor running, condenser fan running. suction line just cool, condenser line barely warm.

Check if evaporator fan is running. Is there any frost buildup on freezers evaporator cover? If so you have a defrost problem (bad heater, defrost thermostat, thermister, defrost timer or circuit board ). If no frost and the freezer is warm then you most likely have a sealed system problem(leak, restriction, bad compressor) which is costly to repair.

My frig is starting to send a sound that is similar to wind blowing (I guess from the motor)

The board that runs the functions of your refrigerator is going bad. The fan is pulsating. Slowing down and speeding up. The noise will eventually go away and the fan will stop running and you will think the fan is bad but it is the board. wr51x10656 at about a cost of 160. to 180.00. Easy to do your self but follow instructions that come with board. It is located on the back of the refrigerator behind a metal plate. Good luck and thanx for using fixya.

Sounds like you have a GE side by side, replace the mother board. Common problem. Once you replace then check to make sure the evap fan is running and condenser fan are working.

Evap fan wont run can it be tested for bad board

Using a little 9 volt square battery , unplug the fan motor and connect the battery to the motor . ( fan runs on low voltage dc ) . If the fan runs , board is bad , if not , then motor is bad .
