Question about Iomega 1TB Desktop USB 2.0 Hard Drive

1 Answer

The hard drive won't register on my computer. When I plug it in, the notification sound goes off (as when you plug anything in to the USB, such as a mouse), but nothing shows up in mycomputer. Any help? I have the Iomega USB 2.0, model LPHD120-U.

I had this problem and just solved it. Unfortunately I did not write down the procedure so may miss a step but I hope it helps.
Right click on my computer and then click on Manage.
Expand Storage and then click on Disk Management.
Click on the disk specifying about 1tb of space and activate so it will go online (you may need to right click to do this).
Right click in the area that should have ///// greyed out (it should be to long rectangular box to the right of the icon and then click Assign (I think) or Map.
The problem is that the device is not assigned a drive letter. Once you map it to a drive letter "H" or "Z" for instance it should show up on your computer.
I found that it showed up and all that was left was for me to format it.

I have a Sony VAIO GRZ610, old i know. Won't power up,

If you cannot get the laptop working then try this method.
Remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and then plug this adapter into a working computer's USB port. If this computer sees this as an USB mass storage device (external hard drive) and you can open the various folders and files, then you can backup and or transfer your data to another computer. If yiu install the hard drive in an USB hard drive case then you can use this hard drive as an external USB hard drive.

Sony cybershot won't register when plugged in

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa.

Please check your USB ports and make sure that there is no shorting or over current.Usually external Hard drives gets fused under the above circumstances. Please check on other USB ports or another PC.If it doesn't responds please contact your nearest service center and ask them for a data recovery. It won't come under the warranty claim if the damage is severe.

Hi, Have you tried it on another PC? Try it on another PC and see if is picked up on that one. If it runs on another PC, then you may have a driver problem with your USB ports, so these may need to be reinstalled.
Hope this helps.

External hard drive problem

It sounds like you may a defective external enclosure. what I'd first recommend doing is trying it on a different computer. If you get the same problem, try removing the hard drive from its enclosure and putting it into your PC/Mac/Whatever. if it registers in the BIOS, then the hard drive is fine, you'll just need a new enclosure. you can get them for fairly cheap at Newegg.com, but remember, its usually cheaper for a reason...
