Toshiba Gigabeat F60 touchpad awlays wants to go UP

I have a new problem with my Toshiba gigabeat 60 touchpad. When I turn on the unit, the selection bar always wants to go up. I can no longer control it with the touchpad. If I press down, then the selection bar might go down one step, but will then rush upwards and scroll around and continue on and on.
Is it possible to repair this issue?
Thank you!
-Ray.

Take the unit apart. Be careful and don't break anything. I used a flat screwdriver and take out the bottom and top silver strips apart. Take out the four small screws on the bottom. Slide out the top cover of the unit and you should see your touchpad dangling above the battery. Peel off the silicon pad that is stuck on a clear plastic sheet. BE CAREFUL THAT YOU DON'T DAMAGE OR TAKE OUT THE TOUCHPAD! Just the white silicon thing on top. After you take that white thing off the touchpad should work perfectly for now.

I had the same problem and I had an extended warranty which covered the repair. I have used the unit maybe twice since then in the past year, and it is doing the same thing again! I would never buy another Toshiba POS player!!!!

You can only wait until Toshiba comes out with an updated driver. I'd go their website...maybe there's information you can use there.

I have a Toshiba Gigabeat F60 from several years ago. It stopped working shortly after I got it and now I would like to try to get it working again. Upon start up it says "no system found oh HDD" but my...

The Gigabeat is not recognizing the firmware on it. The easiest way to re-install the firmware is to install Gigaroom. It will be able to recognize the Gigabeat and replace the firmware.

My gigabeat says system error

hello all my gigabeat f20 had that system error 00000010 on it so i removed the top and bottom cap, then i removed the rear cover off the unit (it takes a bit of force and the end caps just pull off). i noticed the long plug attaching the hard drive to the unit had semi-detached so i simply pushed it back on.NOW ITS FIXED!!!!!

Toshiba gigabeat MES60VK (60 GB) stopped working

There is a little battery cut of switch at the bottom of the device. You can unbend a paper clip and switch it off. Then switch it back on after a few seconds. Plug it back into the usb cable to charge it. It should work ok now.

Computer does not recognize Gigabeat Device

the solution is simple. Simply Run both Gigabeat watcher and giga-room programs as administrator if u have windows vista.
How to do this :

Click on start in the taskbar at the bottom right of your screen,
then click on all programs,
then click on the Toshiba Gigaroom Folder,
then right click Gigabeat watcher and click on "Run as Administrator"
then right click "Gigaroom" and click on Run as Administrator

and then look in the bottom right of the taskbar, the little Gigabeat watcher symbol should be there with a green square instead of grey. If its green then it means Vista has recognised your gigabeat and u can now transfer music to it via gigaroom. i hope this helps people as i was on the verge of buying XP myself again... Peace all and HAPPY GIGABEATIN!

Toshiba Gigabeat 30gb - touch pad non responsive

Hey there Dude22,

Thanks for sharing your problem.  I own a Gigabeat 60 GB and have similar issues. From day 1, this player has been nothing but frustration for me and Toshiba hass been less than helpful.

Yes, it looks cool and it's not an Ipod like everyone else has, but you pay a high price for this buggy player.

The first issue was the ultra-short battery life for which I sent it back to Toshiba. I got the player back but with the exact same battery performance (3-4 hours for audio).

The second issue is similar to yours. At some times, the player starts leading a life of its own and would start scrolling by itself.

I noticed this is happening always when using the 'northern axis' of the cross style touch pad and not when using the 'southern axis'. By pressing the southern axis, you can also stop this fast scrolling and be able to select a song, at least in my case. When asking Toshiba, they told me not much more than i already knew; that the problem could be mechanical or electronic and that I had to send it in for repair.

Since my player is no longer under warranty, they would charge 139 USD for this. I said absolutely no way since you can buy a new Gigabeat 60 GB for 200 USD now (not that I would ever consider buying a Toshiba again). I have decided that I am just gonna use my player like it is as I can still use it, although this scrolling is very annoying.

My vision is that no matter what brand you buy, at some point (and sometimes very soon), these mp-3 players break down as they are designed to be disposable objects and most companies are not interested in dealing with customers having problems.

It is almost insulting. When I looked for updated firmware for the Toshiba Gigabeat MESVK, I could not find a thing anymore on the Toshiba website, as if it never existed!! And this for a player that has not been on the market for much longer than 1.5 year....

So, in a nutshell, yes, I think your player can be fixed but it depends on the level of money, time and frustration that you are prepared to do it. FYI, I popped into a Radioshack store and they would be willing as well to have a look at it and give you a price-quote about how much it would cost to have it fixed (although no guarantees for repair.)
