Its Cricket.....( I worked for them I know) I also have the x501 and sometimes I have the same issues, try a soft reset call *228 and let the phone reset its authorizations (you will not loose anything) it might help.

The FTOA update is an Firmware update once its updated there is nothing that can be done to remove it, the only thing I can recommend is to go into mange apps and force stop Cricket Connect, the new app that got downloaded with the update...(I worked for Cricket for a long time and I currently run an x501 as well)

This appears to be a tough one to find for free. There is some info out there - but it will cost a few bucks. The service manual or sometimes called a "shop manual" is for those that work on damaged units - and is probably over the top for your needs. The operating manual or owner's manual is likely the same as the one that came with the unit when new. Either can be had at the site below for $15 and $10 respectively:
