Question about Tomtom GPS

1 Answer

My tomtom 710 seems to have become very loose in the home mount and the car mount flickering on and off and failing to charge. If you twist the tom tom a bit in either mount it will get a good connection but after bouncing around will lose that good connection very quickly causing me to twist it around again. Is there any way of tighting the connections?

Hi,
Same problems.
Remedy:
Clean contacts of the multipinconnector (on the back of the TT) with a fibreglassbrush and spray connector with a contacts-cleaning liquid. In my case yhis solved the problem.
Good luck, Wim Bénard, The Netherlands

710 frozen on tom-tom splash screen

1. Activate the TeleType GPS program

2. Select Tools>GPS Status>Status.

3. Look closely at the GPS output that is displayed in the View Status menu. Data should be flowing even when the GPS receiver has not locked in the position.

The data string that begins:
GPGSV... is "bad data" because the receiver has not locked into the satellites.

Whereas:
GPGSA... is "good data" indicating that the receiver has locked into the satellites. Remember - "A-Okay"

4. Once the data is flowing, go outside away from buildings, select the Satellites tab (Tools>GPS Status>Satellites), and watch the satellite signal strength

My tom tom 300 won't charge in the car and seems to drain quickly when on the mount. Do the charging mounts go bad?

Every piece of equipment fails at one point or another. Wear and Tear. The problem may be the battery or the charger. Try charging it at a USB port of a computer if you have the cable.
As to draining, you can enact battery power saving features on your unit.

Tom tom won't turn off

if it does not proceed when the icon is selected, presume data corruption or in fact no data.
TomTom is renouned for this type of problem.
try rteinstalling the map data from the source.

try a reset first ( small pinhole on rear) put open paperclip end in and gently push the button inside) if this still fails then data installation is the go

Hi i have justnd just purchases tom tom 730 Go and connected it to my pc. it wont seem to disconnect. it wont turn on fully and has a big cross on the screen

That means you didn't let TomTom Home finish your update before you disconnected. You can do one of two things: reconnect update your device, but if that fails to work, you're going to need to do a hard reset of the device. It is very important to allow TomTom Home to completely finish installing any updates you select before disconnecting or the software may become corrupt.
