Question about Dell 1320c Laser Printer

Same problem My client's used a printer with the problem for more than a year. 5 people are sharing this printer with no printer server. Problem is 2 users have no problem, but 3 other users have the problem. I am 100% sure they have the same setting.

Is the printer connected directly to the network or to a computer port?

If directly connected to the network, the printer engine is also a print server. It sounds like a DNS issue, not a printer issue.

1. At each computer, in a cmd window, type:
IPCONFIG / ALL
Check the DNS on each one. Change the DNS to the same DNS as the two that are working.

Also, if the computer Operating Systems are different, then they use different drivers. (not likely the problem).

If connected directly to a computer on the network, then the "shares" limit has been reached. (not too likely, either)..

I say it's a DNS issue...

For sure, you're trying to print a document or text from a client PC in which the print network was not shared. If this was the case you can try these simple 1-2-3 steps:

1. In the server make sure that the printer is shared through network thru the Printer and Fax Config in the Start Menu
> Select Printer
> Properties
> Sharing
> Share this printer (Printer name ex.: Brother...)
> OK

2. In the client PC make sure that the printer is joined through the network thru the Printer and Fax Config in the Start Menu
> Add A Printer
> A Network Printer
> Connect to the Printer (ex.: \\server\Brother...) Automatic Detection...
> Next.....
> OK

3. Ready to print any files....

I installed the printer and share it. It is only available to user who are on x64bit. user with 32 bit win xp cant access it and install/share it. I have tried to download and install x86 driver but...


This is the HP solution for the problem


HP LaserJet, Color LaserJet and LaserJet MFP Products - Print driver Client / Server Connections in a mixed 32-bit and 64-bit environment ISSUE: 32-bit clients are not able to connect to shared Universal Print drivers or discrete drivers on a 64-bit print server or vice-versa. These scenarios may involve Server 2003/Server 2008 64-bit print servers with Windows XP, Vista, 7 32-bit clients. It is also possible that the server editions could be 32-bit versions with 64-bit clients. SOLUTION:
  1. The administrator will need to download the 64-bit AND 32-bt version of the print driver from www.hp.com . If the server involved is a 64-bit version, the 64-bit version of the print driver will need to be installed and mapped to the printer via TCP/IP. Ensure that the print driver has been shared on the network by going to the print driver properties and enabling Share this printer within the Sharing tab. c02030528.gif

    Ensure that communication has been established and that a driver test page can be printed from the 64-bit server. Once functionality has been confirmed from the 64-bit server, proceed to the next step.

  2. Currently, 64-bit clients will be able to connect to the shared 64-bit print driver that has been installed on the 64-bit server as the architecture currently matches. However, if 32-bit clients wish to map to the shared 64-bit print driver on the 64-bit server, the 32-bit version of the same driver will need to be installed within the current 64-bit driver.
    This process can be done by navigating to the printer properties of the 64-bit driver on the 64-bit server, clicking the Sharing tab and clicking the Additional Drivers button. c02030529.gif

  3. Once the administrator clicks on the Additional Drivers button, the next screen will allow the administrator to load the 32-bit drivers by placing a checkmark in the x86 button and clicking the OK button. c02030530.gif
  4. Once the administrator clicks the OK button, a print driver window will pop-up asking for the 32-bit driver components. Again, the administrator will need to download, and extract the 32-bit version of the print driver on the 64-bit server. Once the window below comes up, the administrator will need to navigate to the 32-bit driver components and select the appropriate driver .inf file.
    For example, the UPD .inf file would be the first file in the list and be named hpcuXXXc.inf. c02030531.gif

    Once the appropriate .inf file is selected, the 32-bit driver components will be installed within the 64-bit driver on the 64-bit server. This can be verified as both x86 (32-Bit) and x64 (64-Bit) boxes will now be checked and show the status as installed by clicking the Additional Drivers button compared to the screenshot in Step 3 above.

  5. Now that 64-Bit and 32-Bit drivers have been loaded onto the 64-Bit server, 32-Bit and 64-Bit clients can now navigate to the shared print driver on the 64-Bit server, by manually navigating to the shared print driver on the 64-Bit server from the client machine. Typically the path is \\servername\sharedprintername.

  6. Once the client maps to the shared print driver, printing should work successfully.

    For problems or errors that continue to occur after completing the aforementioned process, ensure that the latest version of the print drivers are being used www.hp.com . If there are problems with older discrete drivers, it is recommended to use the latest version of the Universal Print Driver which can be found at www.hp.com/go/upd .

Is the printer "Shared"? is DHCP OFF on all the clients? Do they all have a name, password, and be in same workgroup/domain? Check those.

Print jobs get stuck in the queue


OK - all the answer posts on HP sites, Experts Exchange and MS have been a joke to this problem so far. HP 10xx series LaserJet printers do not work (well) in a shared environment. I have found two solutions to this problem. If you really don't understand shares/printing/services/firewall exceptions - don't bother trying this - buy a networked printer when the toner runs out of the HP10xx.
If you want to spend a few hours or about $100 for a print server/NAS device, read on... I HAVE an HP1022 shared on a Windows XP Pro SP3 machine serving as a print server to a Vista laptop, a Windows 7 desktop and a Mac-Mini running OS X 10.6.x. ALL are working.
1. Buy a network print server device (or a NAS device with an included print server - I picked up a Buffalo LS-CHL 1TB and it worked out of the box. I AM NOT ENDORSING BUFFALO NAS servers, they get horrible reviews and you may end up having the same problem down the road due to the NAS device) In this case, your print clients (Win7, Vista, XP, MacOS X) can use a traditional SMB Windows client to print or the BETTER solution is to use the print services for Unix client that comes with Windows but is not installed by default. Both clients work, you may have fewer problems down the road using the Unix (LPR) client. 2. Build on the idea from number 1 above and INSTALL the LPDSVC (friendly name TCP/IP print services) on the machine with the printer LOCALLY attached through USB. You will also have to open up some firewall ports on the machine you are using as a print server if you have one running... I used a program exception (C:\WINDOWS\system32\tcpsvcs.exe) but you could lock this down to 1 TCP port if you wish - I think TCP 515 but you'd better check on this one...) Share the printer as normal. Next install the "Print Services for Unix" CLIENT on the machines you want to connect to the printer remotely from. When you connect to the printer share from the clients, select a LOCAL port, create a NEW PORT, select LPR, use the hostname or the IP of your machine acting as a print server and the NAME OF THE SHARE as the queue. (I don't like to have spaces in my share names, so I used HPLaserJet when I set up the share and description.) You will HAVE TO INSTALL THE RIGHT Printer driver locally on each client. This might be easiest just plugging in the printer with a USB cable since the HP printer driver is an installer as well and wants it to be connected locally unless you can extract the driver...)
Sorry I can't give more details than this. If you don't get the jist of what I am saying above. Don't try it. Give up and call the plumber.

This is an excerpt from a MS Technet page for error 53:
Resolutions: 1) if it is domain environment, check your WINS; 2) if it is peer-to-peer workgroup, enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP; 3) make sure the machine is running; 4) make sure file and Printer Share enabled on remote computer; 5) make sure client for ms networks is enabled on local computer; 6) make sure you type the correct name. 7) Make sure no firewall running or any security setting.
Pay close attention to #s 4 and 5 - I suspect XP pro might not be open enough.

go to my computer right click u can see the device manager their click hardware the u can the hardware that is in yellow question mark.What only u need to do is to click update then locate the cd. especially the os ur using

hi... i have some idea about your problem... maybe you don't have to install the printer to your client's pc... just in your server but you should share your printer thru network... for u to easily use your printer even when you print in a clients pc... thank you very much...
