Question about Mintek DTV-373-D 37 in. LCD HDTV
The remote and controls are not working except to turn the tv on and off--can't change over to DVD player and even the program guide from the satellite will not display--all of the remotes have new batteries and there is nothing in the way of the sensors
What a crock of **** this is guys! This FIX is surly a sad work around for the poor! Replace the mother board and solve your problem the correct way. No need to butcher up this TV. Better still, buy a name brand TV and a service contract which will save you money in the long run.

I am following your fix for the Mintek LCD's which are frozen in the DVD mode. Mine is a 26" model and I would like to follow the procedure of attaching the component wires directly to the component input terminal on the motherboard. Problem is, on this model, there are only 2 non-flat strands and 3 flat strands coming off the component input. Your instructions said that there should be 3 of each and that the input wires are to be connected to the non-flat strands and the grounds to the flat strands. Each of the flat strands on the right & left are long while the flat strand in the center is short. One of the non-flat strands in directly between the left and middle flat strand. From this arrangement it would seem logical that the three input wires should be attached to the the corresponding flat strands and the 2 ground wires from these input wires should both be attached the non-flat strand the is between them while the 3rd input wire and ground wire should be attached to the remaining flat strand and non-flat strand. Are you sure that the input wires must be attached the the non-flat strands? If so how should this be done given the set-up I described.

PS: If your fix works it will be a god send to all those who have these frozen Mintek units and they are legion!

Ryan7 has a workaround which lets you watch any source with component video output. The Mintek TV upscales any format to 1080i, so it's quite a useful hack. It is not a perfect solution, but better than none.
Here is what I found so far.
It seems like the remote and buttons are being sensed by the main controller, since the ON-OFF function works from the remote.
The buttons on the TV itself are also sensed. When you turn the TV on, it first goes to STANDBY mode (red LED). At that point you can push any of the control buttons and the TV will switch to ACTIVE mode (green LED).
Bottom line is - the controls are not totally dead!
The remote control and the keys are all serial inputs to the same controller. It seems as though the controller can read them but no action is taken, including no display of the function activated (volume bar, etc.) so it's likely not a hardware but a software problem.
Since most units are stuck in DVD mode, it makes sense that the culprit is some signal from the DVD player. You'll notice from Ryan's solution that the DVD player is self-contained, i.e. it decodes the picture internally and sends it to the motherboard on the component wires rather than output raw digital data and have the same MPEG controller on the motherboard decode the picture locally.
This is a very poor integration of the two units. I would guess that a problem in the DVD develops after some time and it sends the wrong handshake signal to the motherboard. You'll notice that unplugging the DVD data cable "kills" the set altogether - it will remain in STANDBY mode whatever you do.
Perhaps someone with more time than me can track this issue or find a replacement DVD player, which must conform to the same handshake protocol.
Tracing would involve putting a scope or a logic analyzer on the handshake signals between the DVD and the motherboard. This may turn out to be a very trivial fix.

I have the same TV with the same problem. I was able to fix the television as well as two 26" Mintek TVs this way. This is a very lengthy, complex fix that requires some electronics know how and skills with a soldering iron and I highly recommend reading through this before jumping in. It also makes the TV lose functionality of the built in DVD player, the cable tuner, every input except component, and speaker functionality (so you'll need a receiver and speakers or some sort of powered speakers for sound). But it's much better than letting the $1200 TV gather dust in the basement. So if your feeling daring, give this a try:
First, the TV needs to be stuck in DVD mode. All I had to do was put a DVD in. Be mindful that you'll have to take the DVD player apart to get the DVD back, but this fix requires you to take the DVD player apart anyway.
Next, you'll have to take the back off the TV. It goes without saying that the set should be unplugged first. Also, the screws for taking the stand off are in the back of the TV and not in the bottom of the stand.
When you get the back off, you may want to short out the power supply capacitor. Take an INSULATED PLASTIC or RUBBER screwdriver or other tool and bridge the two leads on the power supply capacitor and be sure you don't touch any of the metal part of the screwdriver while you do it. A large spark is normal. If the TV has been off for some time there may be no spark at all. If you don't want to do this/can't find it capacitor/don't know what it looks like then just be sure to stay away from the immediate area where the AC cord goes into the TV.
Next, continue to remove panels until you can see the main "motherboard" of the television (the one all the inputs on the back of the TV are attached to. You'll have to disconnect some wires to get to it; most have a plastic interconnect, some grounds have a spade connector that's screwed into another part of the TV. Masking tape and colored markers go a long way when helping you remember where each wire goes, too. When you get the central board, take note of the wide, thin group of wires running from the motherboard to the DVD player (it's an IDE cable, the same kind used in computers, Google it).
Take out the DVD player and begin to take it apart, noting where the IDE cable connects. Also remember that you have a DVD stuck in the player. When you can see exactly where the IDE cable connects, look very closely at the board where it connects. You'll see, in extraordinarily small writing, labels for each wire of the IDE cable. Look for either the Y, PB, PR, or Y, CB, CR labels. Mintek only uses one label, but I can't remember which it is. You'll notice that each of the aforementioned wires has a ground wire right beside it labeled G or Gr or - or something obvious.
Use your colored markers or some other way to mark the Y, PB, PR wires (or Y, CB, CR wires) and their grounds. I drew a diagram on paper and counted over the correct number of wires (only because I was out of colored markers :) ). Just make sure you know which wires on the IDE cable are Y, PB, PR (or Y, CB, CR) and which are their grounds. Next, disconnect the IDE cable from the DVD player and use a knife or scissors to cut off the connector.
Here's where it gets very TEDIOUS, but you have a couple of options. I'll go over the easiest (and worst looking solution that probably won't last as long) first. It involves splicing a set of component cables to their respective wire and ground on the IDE cable. The cables will have to be long enough to reach your DVD player/cable box/satellite box/receiver or whatever you want have hooked to your TV. You also have to either leave off the small plastic rear panel or cut a hole in it for the wires to come out of the back of the TV. To fix the TV this way, use a knife to cut the connectors off one end of a set of component cables or 3 RCA cables (they both do the same thing, component cables are usually shielded better). You'll see two wires within each cable when you do this. One is in the middle and is insulated from the other, which runs around the inner one. Separate each strand of wire from the GREEN component cable (or whichever color you want to use for Y if your using regular RCA cables). Tin each strand with solder. Now find the the wire on the IDE cable labeled Y and it's ground. Cut the insulation off those wires (making sure to keep them separate) and tin them with solder. Solder the Y cable to the inner wire of the Green component cable and the ground to the outer part. Use electrical tape to insulate the wires from each other. Now do the same thing with the PB (or CB) and BLUE component cable and the PR (or CR) and RED component cable. Remember the inner wire of the component cable is the one you solder the signal carrying wire to and the outer wire of the component cable is the ground.
Now the second (and best solution that will last the life of the TV if done right) way is much more frustrating. It involves soldering the Y, PB, PR (or Y, CB, CR) wires of the IDE cable to the inputs on the back of the TV. It looks much better this way--the wires won't get pulled loose (they'll be concealed within the TV, and your friends won't notice that your TV has been butchered. You still need to cut the connector off the DVD end of the IDE cable. Find where the component input on the back of the TV is. There's a green Y connector, a blue PB/CB connector, and a red PR/CR connector. On the motherboard side of the connection there are some vertical strands of metal connecting the component connectors to the main board. There's a flat metal strand and another (not flat) metal strand for each of the component connections. The flat strands are for the grounds, the strands that stick out a little are for the signal carrying wires. Just solder the Y wire on the component cable to the GREEN component connector's non-flat strand (there's not much of another way to describe it) and Y's ground to the flat strand. Do the same for the PB (or CB) wire on the IDE cable to the BLUE PB/CB component connector's strands, and the PR (or CR) wire on the IDE cable to the RED PR/CR component connector's strands. HERE'S A TIP: when you solder to the strands, be sure to tin each wire AND the strand first. Also, it's best to have someone hold the TV upright while you solder, to keep all the solder from running to the bottom of the strands.
You may want to test the TV and make sure there are no grounds and that everything is connected before you put the TV back together.
You can also hook up the speakers to an unused RCA input using the same sort of method. This way you can hook up an amplifier or receiver to an RCA input to send signal to the TVs speakers.
Understand that once this is done anything you hook up to your TV will have to be hooked up using a component connection. If you have a satellite box or something that doesn't have the component output, you'll need something to convert. MOST DVD recorders actually do this. The best thing would be to buy a home theater receiver with video conversion, that way you have something to power your speakers AND you can, once again, hook anything up to your TV (through the receiver). The Onkyo TX-SR605 is a GREAT choice.
This really does work, albeit transforming the TV into a monitor (no tuner, no DVD, no sound, one input). Oh, one last thing: if you have the 26" model Mintek TV with the same problem, the fix is exactly the same, only much easier. Instead of working with an IDE cable to hassle with, there's a separate cable for each Y, PB, PR (or Y, CB, CR) signal. And it's labeled right on the main board of the TV, so you don't even have to fool with the DVD player. The DVD player is much more difficult to take apart on this model, though, so tough luck if you got a movie stuck in one.

Hi maybe this might work on your dtv,try load a post card the size of a dvd and hold it in then try the source button to change to tv mode.It worked on my dtv-265-d now all i need is to get a remote control.
