Antenna could be.. But Wilson is a great performer. Check SWR with a meter or get a friend or Cb shop to. Peak &Tune is just that they gave it an adjust to proper 4 watts or setback key to swing(not much help unless full swing kit is done correctly) They just turned up Receive some(thats not much either) Learn more how to peak your own radio at Defcom radio mods or Snake doctors Radio mods. It's simple with screwdriver set and cutters& solder gun. Peak & tune could be a ripoff gimmick for some small fry radio person. A good cb man would do it proper with 2sc1969 final and changing resistors to larger watt(1/2 to 1 watt ones) A big capacitor across Jumper say J1 or something for some Cobra with a 100 ohm resistor on opposite side. Clip D11 with a 1k resistor soldered in series with it. Remove some capacitors listed on Defcom or Snakedoctor or Mudduck mod sites. Tune slugs and remove slugs in back near finals sometimes. Spread coils apart for best Mod swing& power. Lots of work and replacing parts for Hot audio or to except the final change of 2sc1969 which don't match proper for the radio. Needs *tuned precise* with Variable key added sometimes.Power Mic improves it adjust Mic-Gain if squeal though(no telling what they did inside to gain set of Audio) it may cause squeal if Power mic is cranked up.

Learning to do your own is much better- Having power meters& Swr meters too. Spare parts& Freq counter, solder gun. Then you can charge people to fix theirs.

Nearly all problems are caused by poorly tuned or untuned antennas. a good antenna system with a cheap stock radio will out perform a great tuned radio with a bad antenna system any day of the week. if you dont believe me, check the firestik antenna website's tech notes. or wilson's tech notes.

Start with the antenna that you have hooked to it, is it grounded, is the coax in good shape, is the connector in good shape. stuff like that.

Cobra 29 ltd classic ant light

Your SWR is probably NOT fine. You need to use an external meter if you have had work done to the radio. Especially if you have had a swing mod done to the radio. When you do this, the dead key of the radio is lower then the calibration knob on the radio can adjust for. It will always come up lower then it actually is.

Your radio might have been fine before the work was done on it because it was putting out very little power. Now you are most likely putting out 50 watts or more. Big jump from 4 watts.

When your raise the power in a radio, you will notice more when the antenna is not properly tuned.

In most cases with a stock CB, even when the antenna is not even near tuned, you will get a reading less then 1.5 anyway.

the more power you put out, the more important it is to have a good match.

But an external SWR meter, and check it. be careful if the ANT light is on.

You might also want to check your coax, connections to it, and your antenna for anything wrong.

Cobra 29 ltd classic side mic

First off I dont believe anyone to peek and tune but anyways. Make sure your mike is for the radio wiring. Next the guy that rigged it up might have gave you all the channels do all your knobs work??? usually you can tall as you get someone to talk with you a few blocks away and start, start turning and flipping switches till you can hear him most likely the guy that did the work on it messed it up. for a filter use a farite choke from radioshack on the mike wire.

Cobra 29 LTD Classic not transmitting or receiving

As I understand from a tech friend of mine, most truck beds are not grounded well enough. Perhaps you could borrow/purchase a magnet mount antenna and locate it on the roof, for testing. Then you would have it narrowed down to the location.

Cobra classic 29 ltd

Had fixed the same problem yesterday. My cobra worked when it wanted to, when it didn't it looked like you explained. I found out that on my cobra the blue wire on the mike connector was broken. When it disconnects, no sound. after soldering, everything works fine.
