I have tried tapping lightly on the unit all over , no avail.

With regards to overheating, the TV is and has been in a clean cool environment, I have left the unit off and unplugged for days and the failure sequence remains the same should I try to turn it on after it being unplugged or plugging it in and powering it up right away. All the cooling fans function correctly, even the one that stays on 100 % of the time. I know that my unit is the same as the RCA f38310, and I have seen my symtoms descibed on the internet on various sites with some specific resolutions. My access is very limited so that is why I have come to Fixya in hopes that a more experianced technician can provide me with a specific indentified repair to a specific identified failure. That being said, where do I go form here.

    Best Regards,

Well, the fuse is good, no swollen caps, and yes I do have a capacitance meter and the main power supply caps check well within tolerance. How about the low voltage circuit, what would you look for ?

Do you have prints on this unit so as point me in a more specific direction?

Note: After pulling the back off and checking the componets the unit still displays the same characteristics, powers up sound and pic fine, 3-5 seconds, shuts down, tries to restart 3 times and gives up. All fans work.

    Best Regards,

Thanks for using FixYa. This issue might be due to power supply fault, back light lamp or loose wiring. A faulty power supply will work normally for some time when it’s cold but once heated it will shut down the TV to protect other components. Also please check all the connections from and to the TV.

If still the problem persists, try this procedure---

First bang on the upper side of the TV with your hand and see whether it is staying on for a long time or staying on and off. If the issue is slightly resolved but not completely, then it means that a wire, connection or cold solder joint is loose which you can check after opening the back cover of the TV.

Before you open the TV first shut it down and un-plug it for about three hours so that the high voltage is discharged. Please stay clear of the high voltage section which is in a metal casing from where a big black and thick wire is going in the back side of the picture tube. You can check the continuity with OHM meter or Multi-Meter. Replace the part which has gone bad.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

The first thing to check is the fuse on the power supply
board of the TV. This is located where the power cord is fixed to the circuit
board. You will have to lift the back off the TV. If you can check the fuses,
you may be able to fix the TV for minimal cost. If it is not the fuses then it
is due to swollen capacitors on the power supply board. Make sure that you
replace all the capacitors on the power supply board.

Also check the diodes and the main filter capacitor, the
latter could be tough if you don't have a capacitance meter. You’ll need to
replace it with a new one of the same rating.

Before you open the TV first shut it down and un-plug it for about three hours so that the high voltage is discharged. Please stay clear of the high voltage section which is in a metal casing from where a big black and thick wire is going in the back side of the picture tube. Please check the succeeding things. May be the component
(VCR, DVD, etc.) connected to the input jack is not on. Try another channel,
because there may just not be any programming on at that time. Cables in back
may be disconnected. Check to make sure it is plugged in, and try the front
panel POWER button. Check the wall receptacle (and extension cord, if
applicable) to make sure it is “live” by plugging in something else. Maybe
batteries in remote control are “dead.” To test, see if the LED lights up when
you press a button. Maybe remote control is not aimed at remote sensor. However
you can download Proscan HDTV User’s Manual from the following link---

Tv turns on w/pic then pic dissapears light blinks 4 times

I have the same issue, we've had to change our bulb three times in less than two years. now we have 61" expensive paper weight. Our current bulb is less than 6 months old. The TV is only 2 years old and like i said this is our third bulb.

the blue light blinks 4 times. you get sound. then a few minutes the the picture returns... then it goes out, and the cycle goes on.

A solution to this would be greatly appreciated.

TV goes to green, sound stays on a few seconds then TV shuts off.

Sounds like you have a bad picture tube. More than likely the CRT could be shorted, which would cause the set to shut down.
My first advise would be to power up the set with an isolation transformer with the voltage about 60% approx. 72 Volts AC, and monitor what happens when you increase the voltage slowly.
If the set remains on at 60 -70 %, then when increased to 90 - 100% it shuts down, you have something drawing too much current ( which could be the CRT )

Samsung HLN617W1 picture will not come on

Replacing the projection lamp solved part of the problem. I am still concerned about the sound which is coming either from the fan or color wheel. After it warms up the humming sound seems to greatly lessen. I guess I will just wait that problem out until something drastic happens.

TV shuts off and red standby/timer lights blinks red until I power the set off. When it shuts down it does so with a very loud snap. When I turn it back on the screen is blue and has light blue...

The most common cause for what you are seeing is a shorted gun in the picture tube. When 2 elements (heater and cathode) of one of the guns inside the neck of the picture tube touch, that gun goes full on and overloads the flyback (high voltage) transformer. If it is in the blue gun, the screen will go bright blue with light blue "retrace" lines in it. The computer senses the overload and shuts the set off. At 2 years old the tech most likely tried removing the short by arcing between the elements. This works sometimes but the short often comes back a few months later. Another attempt at removing the short could be tried, and it might work this time, but it may or may not work for long. The ony other solution is to replace the picture tube but that would cost much more than the set is worth. A qualified tech will be able to tell you if this is the problem in your set.
