From what i know about laptops, their VGAs cannot be replaced because they are built into the Mobo so the best solution there is to consult a laptop techinician. He could just reinsert or clean the contacts that could cost cheaply.

Repeat your video cables and look for bent pins. If that don't work reseat your video card unless it's integrated video in which case you would need a new motherboard.
you could also try and revert to an earlier restore point. Press F8 when you restart your system

Laptop won't complete boot. LEDs lit and not blinking, fan runs, black screen, then auto-restarts itself in about 45 second cycles.

sounds like the video chip on the motherboard.

if it is a nvida video chip... then it got to hot, this is do to how it was made, flaw in design!1

look for a nvida sticker to confirm..

I've got a HP Pavilion DV 9700 with 3GB RAM, it's running Windows 7 professional 32bit. It has a video card Geforce 8600m GS, I downloaded the drivers from the Nvidia web page but the driver doesn't seem...

ITS a NOTBOOK, with fixed GPU. (cant change that)
so what was this PC new. what OS? VISTA
and you put on w7?
if yes, did you look up the rules for w7 on that. first.
that is step one, btw.

i think your OS was changed from VIsta to w7
try the Vista driver below. it might work,.

so why not use the HP drivers, for your PC and leave nvida out.
if the HP drivers fails, due to wrong OS, the ask Nvida for help.
not HP. see? If HP does not support w7 , asking them is fail.

first get right 32bit and 64bit, do that first. then pick W7
then pick GPU driver.
ask HP no matter.
they had Nvida chip or Intel, using the wrong chip driver is FAIL

No display on hp laptop

Well, believe it or not. It's good news that it still works with the external monitor. That means it is not the video card which is embedded in the motherboard and is very expensive to fix. Here is a link to disassemble instructions for your motherboard. Scroll down till you see the dv9000's that should be your laptop. Good luck

Does not turn on

The model laptop that you are talking about has a bad graphics card which is part of the motherboard. It is an Nvida product that over heats and fails.

If you go to HP's website forum and searching for "black screen on start up" you'll see a lot of messages.

I have an HP dv2025nr same issue.
HP will replace motherboard for around $400.00

Hope this helps

Screen goes black

The video adapter board is what controls the monitor. If you are going to replace a board that would be the one.
