Question about Washing Machines
It is the tub seal. There is a shaft that goes through the drum from the drive assembly. The seal is about 45 dollars. Installation is a different story. You can get the part at Sears and they can offer tips on replacing it. Basically you lay the unit on its back and be ready for the water that is still in the hoses and drum. Then take the agitator cap off and the associated hardware that is under the cap that holds the agitator on it. While you are there check the splines on the shaft and the nut assembly that is there. If they are work replace them. Then you go back to the bottom and remove the drive assembly and pull the shaft out of the drum. You then remove the seal and put in the new one. Be sure to use a vaseline grease on the new seal parts that contact the shaft. It is a good idea to use a seal installation tool to put the new on it. Then you should cover the shaft with a sleeve so that it wont score the seal when you put in back into the drum. Put the unit back together and run it once on high temp to remove any grease.
