Dell 370 fan runs loud and won't start

If the fan is failing the most times the computer will not start because it will overheat. There are two fans inside the system, one inside the Power Supply and one that sits on the motherboard.

Remove the Power Cord, Open the case, Remove the cover and with a can of compressed air blow out the dust inside the computer. Clean the dust away from the Fans, Vents, CPU and Heat Sink are that sits under the Fan on the motherboard.

1) How to you open the cpu case to get to the fan, etc. 2) My fan has started making noises......can it be cleaned - or is it likely to need replacement?

Things You'll Need:
  • phillips Screwdriver
  1. Shut down your Dell desktop computer.

  2. Remove all of the power and peripheral cables from your computer. There should be no cables connected to your computer when you attempt to remove the cover and open the case.

  3. Watch for the green "Power" indicator light to dim. This light is on the back of the case near where the power cable plugs in. Your computer will hold onto an excess amount of energy for a few seconds after it is unplugged. You don't want to open your Dell computer case while this light is still lit.

  4. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the side of your Dell desktop computer's case. Set the screws aside.

  5. Use your hands to pull up on the side of the case, separating it from the base of the computer. This will allow you to access the inside of your Dell desktop computer.

My DELL Dimension 5150 fan is making a great noise, how can I fix it?

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the side-panel.
Buy a can of compressed-air, and give your computer a "blow-job" to remove dust from "everywhere", including the fan(s).

If you still get noise, then it's time to replace the fan.
Take the computer to any computer-store, so that they can sell you a new fan that matches the current fan.

I need to remove the fan. I know how to open the case, however I just can't seem to gain access from the metal cover even with all the screw removed.

All WHAT screws removed? You pull back on the Release Lever, then lift the side panel off!

Dell D800 laptop cooling fan issue

If you want to know all the details of your hardware software ect...
I would recommend downloading SIW http://www.gtopala.com/
If the computer does boot up I would simply suggest buying a replacement fan they generally only cost about $10-15 and take only a minute or two to replace
Here is a link to Dell's part ordering page just select your machine type, if its custom made, you can remove the fan and find the part # on it and search Dell's site by the part # http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/DellPartsFamily.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs
If you need further assistance feel free to leave a comment
Thanks :)

Noisy fan

We have a Dell Dimension 4700C too. We had it on a 3-year warranty and the only problem with it was that from that to time it would become abnormally noisy, too noisy in fact. Dell sent a repair guy twice, and they changed the heatsink/fan assembly unit both times, and the third time we did it ourselves (it's not that hard to do), but here's the thing, we noticed how DUSTY it was when it came out, we wondered how it even worked with all that dust. So, now our warranty has expired, and guess what, the computer started making that terrible racket again, so this time, we opened it, armed with the vacuum cleaner and a can of compressed air, gave the whole inside of the computer a good once over, removed the heatsink/fan assembly and cleaned it thorougly (you can't do this unless it is out), and it worked like a charm, can't even tell the computer is running. Hope this helps.
