Hello mis1539. I think I can help you here. First: are you sure the backup battery is defunct? Bear in mind that the backup battery takes about 15 hours to fully charge and will discharge if the main battery or power source is disconnected or goes completely dead for anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours. If the backup battery discharges, the process starts all over and the backup battery will need to be charged for 15 hours again. If you think the backup battery may have discharged at some point, it could be that it never full re-charged so it will discharge and lose your settings (cache/flash memory) almost instantly. It is worth mentioning that about 95% of my clients that have this problem have fixed it by simply making sure that the unit is in it's cradle, with the battery in and charging overnight to fully recharge the backup. Again, I really would implore you to give this a shot before resorting to cracking open the unit and getting to the backup battery (which is no fun task, I assure you). If this doesn't work for you, please let me know and I can help you further. I hope this solves your problem. Good luck!

This task isn't too difficult if you have some basic tinkering skills. There are 2 screws in the battery compartment, and two at the back of the device at the top. Undo all 4, and gently but firmly slide the back (handle and all) towards the top of the device. Be very careful, however, as there are 3 small wires connecting to the back of the device to the handle assembly. So, you'll need to unplug these once the back pops open, to seperate the two.

The backup battery is in the handle. You'll need to undo the screw holding it in, and simply pull the battery and rubber protective shielding out. Find a replacement, and reverse the steps above.

Mc9060 loosing wireless profile after a cold boot or removing the battery then i have to reconfigure it everytime

This is a very common problem with this scanner, especially if its running Windows CE rather than Pocket PC or Windows Mobile.
Every time the terminal cold boots (has been left a significant time without the main battery and backup battery is depleted) it will rebuild any configurations from reg files saved within the Application folder on the device.
To save the wireless settings the profile (and options for peace of mind) need to be save/exported. This is done by hitting the wireless icon located in eth taskbar on the right hand side, from the menu select options. This pops up a box which contains a drop down box, from this select "export" then you can export profiles and options. Each time you will be prompted to save, use default and the relevant reg file will be saved to the Application folder and hence the settings will now persist through an old boot.

you need to connect the handheld to your PC and then use software to change settings for the device. There is no other way for the settings to persist a cold boot.

Not all units can be upgraded. It depends on the configuration. Also, there may be an issue with the license.
