Belt broke and now I need to replace but can't find instructions!

Single female that can't afford to pay someone to replace a belt! I'm very handy. Have an extensive collection of tools (like to work on cars). Don't want to mess anything up and cause myself more expense. Could someone please give simple instructions?!

I'm tipping my hat at your willingness. You can do it!
First, if you haven't done so already, get your make, model number and serial numbers to get the correct belt at an apliance parts store.
For the job:
1. Unplug the washer from the wall AC outlet.
2. Turn off your hot and cold water supply valves.
3. Remove the supply hoses (I prefer from the washer side and I use channel locks to grip the hose connectors). It might be a good idea to mark which hose connects where, before you disconnect. Then unhook the drain hose. There may be a little water spillage to clean up later.
4. If you have a dolly and available space, pull the washer out and locate it to a place where you can carefully lay it face down. You might place a small door rug to lower the face onto to protect the paint.
5. Now with the bottom exposed, you can probably determine any access requirements to the belt and the belt routing, easily enough. place the new belt on the tub and motor pulleys. You may need a pry bar or sufficient tool to pry back the tensioning pully while you load the belt onto the pully.
6. Stand it back up and reinstall... after you clean... ha.
Please note, this is a generic instruction as I am not 100% familiar with differences from one model to another. Generally, they are the same here.
I hope this helps... Good luck!

Hello, I have a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe, GLS 2WD 6Cyl. 2.7L. The bearings on my A/C Compressor broke so for now I wanted to put a shorter belt for the Santa Fe without A/C and bypass the the Compressor for...

kirk the cheapest way is to look at a recycler's online website and find yourself a used compressor.
that way your belt will fit and when you can afford it you can pay someone to charge the system. used compressors run 30-60 dollars and most likely many will fit. if you are near an urban area there are usually many junk yards around but you have to look. if they have a website it will lead you to an interchange part number which will let you figure out what other cars have the same part. smaller yards may not have a website but if you have the interchange part number they cam most likely find you a replacement.

the tensioner usually requires a large appropriately sized metric open end wrench with an extender, such as a pipe, fitted over the end. put the wrench on the nut and lever it away from the belt. this will allow some slack.

Sounds like you have a broken belt. I had the same problem and replaced it myself. If you have someone handy at home, there are detailed instructions on the internet (just search) for replacing dryer belts for your model. That's what I did. A new belt costs about $13. If you need to call a service man in to replace, it might cost between $100 - $200.

Replacing belt on Maytag Dryer (Model: LDE8626ACE)

This might be best handled by a technician as it is not a simple task for the untrained servicer. The belt should come with written instructions on replacement procedures if you desire to attempt it. We are factory trained to replace the belt entirely from the front, by feel only, as the idler pulley can't be seen. If you have a replacement belt but no instructions and wish to pursue this yourself, maybe our experts may be able to help you in our on line chat service, who can talk you through it, live. There is fee for this service but it is much cheaper than paying for a house call.
