Jen-Air JSD2989 AE, freezer works but the frig doesn't

Lets make sure that there are no frost build up on the freezer back wall like this=> HERE If there is a problem with frost building on the rear wall of the freezer the most likely reason will be the=> 61005988 Defrost Control Board

The defrost control board can be found behind the control panel inside the fresh food compartment just above the top chef. It is listed as part location 13 in this photo here=> JSD2989AEW Control Components
The next possibility will be the auto damper listed as part location 8 and that part number is=> 61005989 Auto Damper

Instructions on testing and removal of the auto damper and other repairs can be found here=> JSD2989AEW Service Manual
The other two possibilities are the=> 61006199 Defrost Heater and Defrost Thermostat

Freezer worjs but fridge dont

Please check to see if the auto defrost timer is faulty, if the fridge cools after a shut down then the auto defrost timer is faulty. as it fails to heat up the frost thereby making the frost build up to block the vent.

Our top mount Kenmore fridge (Model # 253.77872509) is frosting up in the freezer section. Have turned off & defrosted the freezer on several occasions - it works for a few weeks but then begins...

Hi,

Normally when frost build up occurs it's because warmer outside air is getting into the freezer and the moisture from that warm air cools and condensates then freezes into frost or ice. You either have a bad seal like the other listing states try leveling the front a little higher than the back. Or you may have an issue with the defrost heater, thermostat or timer. Do you have a light that comes on from time to time? If so you have an auto defrost unit. If there is no light you may not have a frost free freezer which means you will have to remove the frost manually.

Freezer has massive ice build up, refrigerator not cooling , no cold air thru chute

Possible that the auto defrost timer is not working and so the massive frost build up. This prevents the air to flow from vent to the fridge.
The auto frost must work on a determined setting of the timer cycle as the frost must clear so that the whole fridge is efficient.
So check the timerr which is normally placed in the rear bottom and is connected to the heater and is also inline with the thermostat.

Top refridgerator not working...no airflow. Could it be a fan? Freezer is still working.

Yes , it is possible but you must be able to remove the freezer compartment to see if the frost has bitten into or if the frost has worned out the wires. If fan is not working then replace but if frost has build up defrost and check after shutting off fridge ffor some hours. If the frost builds up then there is a fault with the auto defrost timer, check also the heater.
Check also the vent for free flows of the fans blowing.

Ice build up in refrigerator. Not cooling

Fault in the auto defrost section. shut off the fridge and defrost , check onthe thermostat , faulty lines wire breaks due to frost. if not trace the wires to the auto defrost timer. check the heater continuity/resistance. When the fridge is started back check the timer and see if the auto defrost works. If not check thermostat and the timerr contacts or if it is running. if not replace.

Evaporator coils covered in frost, and now the fan will not run. I defrosted manually and it started to work, about five minutes later the fan quit blowing. Help!!! Model number glrsf266j

Your fan could be faulty or the frost is building up due to failure of the auto defrost. If the fan stops working by itselt , then you must replace the fan .whereas if the fan works but stops due to frost then the speed of th fan must be checked or the auto timer must be checked for failure. You will need to trace the connections of the wores to the heaters, to the thermostat and to the timers for break bue to frost building and wearing out the wires. Get help if you are not able to do this but keep these suggestions in mind so that we concur. get estimate before you get the work done for a consenses. Hope you try this out. Good day

Refrigerator not cooling.

frost build up on element behind freezer back panel becasue auto defrost isn't working (possibly timer). Frost build up blocks the airflow from freezer into fridge causing it to stop working but freezer still working.
