Will not turn on

My rice cooker will not turn on. The electrical outlets work with other things plugged in. The cord doesn't appear to be damaged. The switch clicks when it's pressed down. What could be wrong?

I think your rice cooker has a thermal switch (or thermal fuse) that is open.It is very easy to fix it.It cost me less than 2 bucks to replace it.To check it ,use an ohmeterter .Unplug your cooker ,put two probes to the prongs of the power cord to check for resistance,if the meter shows infinite resistance=your themal switch may be open. Now open the bottom of the cooker ,find the wire that goes to the side of the intrument, pull it out and you will find the thermal switch ,check it with the ohmeter for continuity .if it is bad =replace it (I hope it is not the heating element)

Bought Oster cooker two months ago and today will not turn on. Indicator lights are not working. What can we do?

I had the same problem as well. No lights -just went dead. I called Oster at 1-800-334-0759. They are replacing it for free as it is still in the 2 year warranty period. Have the code (letter+ numbers) from the prong that plugs into the wall handy.

I have had the same problem. I have found the thermal fuses on line @ I replaced mine with part # FUS1128, Thermal Fuse 184 Deg C. All is working fine now. At the time of purchase they were only $0.39 each, so I got a few extra. Hope this is helpful to someone.

I have had the same problem and have had Oster send me out 2 addittional units for free. the 2nd 2 i received broke faster than the first. they broke in the first 2 uses. what a shame because we really liked it. Find a new product not made by Oster...maybe they will eventually issue a recall or use better parts.!

Hmm, I can see this. But it seems to me that this is a common problem with Oster's rice cookers. I'm in product management (construction equipment) and it's obvious Oster has a wide-spread problem. If a service center is the answer (and there is none around me) then I'll dump this one and buy a different brand. Thanks

i suggest you bring this to a service center since you guys mentioned that there are no external problems, the thermal capacitor may be busted.

hope this helps.

I have an ikeda 10 cup rice cooker, it wont power on

Try it in a different outlet. Does the unit have a light that comes on when plugged in? If the light is in the cord and the light is still out on a different outlet, the cord may be faulty. If it lights, check to see that the connection between the cord and cooker is tight.

Rival 6-cup rice cooker does not work

I have had THREE different cookers over the past year and ALL THREE have done the exact same thing. It has to be electrical and I suspect it blows an internal fuse...then it is no longer working. This is awful. I would never recomend it to anyone.

It is a blown thermal fuse. On 6-cup Rival it is across terminal where power comes into cooker. You can replace thermal fuse for less than a dollar in under an hour. Remove the bottom of the cooker. The thermal fuse is covered by a heat wrap sleeve across input terminal.

Rice burning at bottom of cooker

Your cooker, along with mine, cooks very hot. If it is new then you can take it back, but if you want to cook with it then you need to stir the rice often. About every 5 minutes should be good. As soon as it is done you need to remove it from the cooker. Let's see how that works.

Rice cooker

First you have to make sure that the power outlet is working fine using a Multi Tester. Next is disconnect the Power Plug from the Rice Cooker and test continuity within the cord.  make sure those two are both working good.  next step is to open the Rice Cooker Bottom.  Again using a multi tester, Test the continuity of the Thermostat, make sure multi tester setting is on the ohm setting. reading should be zero, if reading is higher than 200 ohms, the thermostat is defective.  Which is the reason why your cooker is not turning on is due to an open in the circuitry.  Check warranty with the store you purchased it from or the manufacturer of the rice cooker.
