Question about Smeg DO81CSS Electric Double Oven

1 Answer

I have a smeg self cleaning oven on the first occasion I used it when it was just out of warranty to glass shattered and I had to pay eighty euros for a replacement. Last Tuesday I used the self cleaning function again and the glass shattered again. Today the man who replaced the glass panel in the oven and received eighty euros wants another eighty euros to replace the one that shattered on first use Tuesday. I do not have the money and have been told that I can do without my oven until I can come up with the money. The persons name was Philip from NAA Ballymount Ireland.

Do not use abrasive cleansers on the glass, fine scratches will cause failure in high temperatures. do not use Philip again untill you call around for the best price.!

How do I take the glass out my oven door model AP578X-8

Hi, I have pasted the instructions for your Smeg oven you below:
9.4 Removing the internal glass panels
The glass in the door should always be kept thoroughly clean. To facilitate
cleaning, it is possible to remove the door (see 9.2 Removing the door) and
place it on a canvas, or open it and lock the hinges in order to extract the glass
panels.
The glass panels of the door can be completely removed by following the
instructions provided below.
Warning: before removing the glass panels, make sure that at least one of the
door's hinges has been locked in the open position as described in "9.2
Removing the door". This operation may have to be repeated during the glass
removal process if the door is accidentally freed.

Removing the internal glass panel:
• Remove the internal glass panel by
pulling it upwards, following the
movement indicated by the arrows. Doing
this detaches the 4 pins attached to the
glass from their slots in the oven door.
Removing the intermediate glass panels
(on some models only):
• Some multifunction models have an
intermediate glass panel. Remove the
intermediate panel by lifting it upwards.
Cleaning:
• It is now possible to clean the external
glass panel and the panels removed
previously. Use absorbent kitchen roll. In
the case of stubborn dirt, wash with a
damp sponge and neutral detergent.
Replacing the glass panels:
• Replace the panels in the reverse of the
order in which they were removed.
• Reposition the internal glass panel, taking
care to centre and insert the 4 pins
attached to the glass into their slots in the
oven door by applying slight pressure.

Broken glass after cleaning cycle......is the oven wstill safe to use??

I would recommend that you do NOT use the oven until you get the glass replaced, remember that very high temperatures are involved and the other glass could easily shatter with the heat.

Oven glass door shattered on the inside during self clean mode

The glass is replaceable. You need to get the exact glass replacement kit from the manufacturer. I had to have mine replaced about a year ago due to condensation between the 2 glass panels and was able to get the replacement for $0.00.
Suggest to Siemens that the glass on yours should not have shattered and therefore was probably defective and you may luck out and get the glass for free. It's worth a try.

The inside of my self cleaning smooth top range

Using any kind of cleaning solution can cause the self-clean catalytic coating to be damaged. The glass itself isn't sensitive but don't apply anything like oven cleaner or other caustic cleaner to any of the other surfaces unless your owner's guide specifically permits it. On the glass, I have on occasion used a new single-edge razor blade to remove any heavy, baked on splatters and then conventonal glass cleaner to finish.

We have a SMEG self cleaning oven however the glass door is filthy and we are seeking the best approach to clean it without damaging

Purchase 3M stainless cleaner for the stainless parts, do not use spray and wipe or similar as it removes the marking or etching indicators (temp. etc)

You can use oven cleaner on the glass, but try not to let it go on the stainless parts yet again.

Hope this helps?
