Can't set up DP 301U and still keep internet connection

I can get the DP 301U to work perfectly, but it takes out my ability to connect to the internet. If I fix up the IP address for the computer (....101 vs ....10 for the server), the computer works fine, the printer is listed as connected through that port, but it won't print. (Using XP home on an AMD based machine)

This happened when I tried to install my DP-301U also. It turned out to be a problem with the DHCP on my router. Here is how I got around this.

    1. Set the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties back to 'Obtain an IP address automatically' and make sure you can still access the internet.

    2. Go to the setup utility for your router. Find something that says something like 'Starting IP Address: Maximum number of DHCP users: 50' (these are Linksys default settings). This gives you a range of available IP addresses that you can use. Write this down.

    3. At a command prompt (start --> run --> command) type IPCONFIG. Write down the IP address, Subnet mask and Default gateway.

    4. Go to the setup utility for the print server (the default is Select the 'Configuration' tab across the top and the 'Network' button along the left.

    5. In the IP Address section select 'Manually Assign'. Fill in an IP address that is within the range of available IP addresses from step 2 (IMPORTANT: Write down the IP address you picked). Fill in the subnet mask and default gateway from step 3.

    6. From here you can continue the instructions to add the printer substituting the IP address you chose for the default listed in the book.

1 Answer dp-301u print server is in net A and it works well; 2.i just have an other net B ,it joins net A by a route ; 3.users in net B can connect to other server in net A but they can't connect the print...

Port 80 may be open behind the router to network B, but the ports used for printing may not. See if the router is blocking any ports and disable this feature for printing ports or all ports if possible.
Alternatively, try setting up a virtual server on the bridging router that points to the static ip address of your printer on network A.
Hope this helps. -Daniel

Where can i download the driver for DP-301U

Print Server doesnt require driver. Connect the printer to the computer directly and check if it is printing. The drivers for the printer will be loaded and you will be able to print. Then connect the printer to Print server and you will be able to print. If it is still not printing, you have to create an LPR port for the printer driver

Setting up IP address on server

Download and install <a href="">Wireshark</a>.

After installing, click the first button on the toolbar to list available capture devices. Select the interface you use to connect to your network (wired or wireless card) by clicking the "Start" button next to it.

Power off and back on the print server. Watch the log on Wireshark, and look for the D-Link identifier under the "Source" tab. In the same row, it will tell you the IP address the print server has assigned to it. You can then change your computer's IP to be in the same subnet (match the xxx's in the address, allowing you to connect to it.
