Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-36FS120 36" TV

1 Answer

Sony Wega Triniton 36" turns off while watching

While watching TV, the screen blacks out and thens turns off. This is not an everyday problem, but when it starts, it continues to do this more frequently- every few minutes or so. We turn it off and let it rest and then does not do this for a day or so.

Same here. We have noticed that it often seems to automatically turn itself off at the end of a video game (wii) and during commercials. trying to power on immediately will not work. Waiting usually helps. But our problem occurs 10 times an hour - not every few days. It is worsening - what could this be?

i have the same problem. it first happened on the 8th jan 08. i was watching a tv program when suddenly, it just turned off. turned it back on and after a minute or so it went back off. I unplugged it for about a min then turned back on and i worked for no more than 2 min. left it unplugged over night then it worked for half an hour the next day until it turned off by itself again. Now it wont turn on at all. it's like dead. What i did notice, is that the screen is off line and doesnt matter what i do with the settings, it will not get adjusted. the image is bigger than the screen.

    any ideas?

Hi,

From the symptoms you describe, it seems the high voltage flyback autotransformer has failed along with the horizontal amplifier (they are slaved to each other).

Well, the only way to solve this is to get a technician take a look at the set, I'm afraid. Repairs could cost upto $100 or more, depending upon the number of components that need to be replaced,

Since the set is new, it may be worth getting fixed up. If you decide to do so, call around, as shops have different rates and different expertise. Many shops are hurting for work because so many of the smaller sets are never repaired anymore; they are just thrown out and replaced since the cost of a new set is sometimes as low as the repair expense.

Hope that helps...Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. Before you assign a rating, please make sure that the issue is resolved or you are satisfied. If not, please post back as to what you did, and/or any other questions you may have, and I will try to assist you as best I can. Please do not assign an ‘Inappropriate’ or ‘Thanks for trying’ rating if your issue is not resolved after the first response itself, as sometimes a bit of to and fro dialogue may be necessary before we can find a fix or an answer to your query.

If you find that the solution/answer I provided led you to, or resulted in a fix, please close the ticket with a FixYa! rating. I would be very grateful for your show of appreciation.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Sony Wega Triniton KV-32FS100 TV

For the last week my TV has been going to a black screen for 10 seconds or so then the picture returns. It has been continual. Last night it stopped going to black screen, but now the standby light flashes 5 consecutive times and the color went haywire. A lot of red and everything that is suppose to be black is green.

I did a soft and hard reset with no success. What's wrong and is it worth fixing? Bought new in November 2002.
