Check for any loose solder terminals at its video output card. This card can be located at the back of the CRT, will directly plugged on to it. Re-solder all the suspected solder terminals, by applying a little more solder. The fault can be categorized to 'sigle color predominant' screen.

I have a Sony KD-34XBR960 and the standby light blinks twice and makes a click noise and a bang sounds off in the back of the TV and then it repeats its self , the TV does not turn on .

  1. Two blinks - B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.

Switched itself on and off and then went bang and stopped working

You have a power supply problem and high voltage issue, this will require a tv technician to inspect the set because it is a specialty repair, and I would suggest an estimate, because from your description it will be expensive.

My 42inch plasma bush tv made a load bang noise as i was watching it yesterday. The picture immediately dissapeared, but the sound stayed.

That sounds like the plasma power supply section has stopped working.
Replacement module probably. Fairly expensive, maybe, unless there are some refurbished panels out there.
Hope that helps.

32 inch prima lcd tv model lc-32u16 that won't turn on

You probably have some defective filter capacitors in the power supply. The tops of them may be domed instead of flat. Be sure to replace them with same values listed on the originals - slightly higher voltage rating is OK, but no less! Make sure they are rated at 105 degrees C and not 85 degrees.

JVC 27" CRT TV AV-27BP3 display shows single horizontal line

I have a similar problem on my CRT computer monitor (AcerView 76c). It is an old screen and I think it is just at the end of its life, much like your TV. Having some background in physics, I would be pretty sure that the problem is with the cathode ray tube's vertical deflection system. The horizontal deflection electrodes are working while the vertical one is not. This results in a display of a single horizontal line (or in my case, a few superimposed) in the centre of the screen. Where both X and Y (horizontal and vertical) deflectors fail then the electron gun firing would result in a single bright spot in the dead-centre of the screen.

So really, we have no choice but to move on and buy a new set as repair is probably just as, if not more, expensive than replacement with a new device. Seeing as your post was in 2007, I hope you managed to solve the problem.

Best wishes,

Tv doesn't come on

The brown stuff you see is excess flux and is not hurting anything, you need to check the horizontal output transistor for a short, sometimes this transistor goes bad because loose conections in the horizontal driver transformer and could have been intermitant,if the transistor is shorted it likely took the safety resistor that gives him the volts to operate. It seem you are familiar with tv service but some measurements need to be made with a meter to check for a short. If the transistor is bad it need to be replaced with an exact replacement, check for loose conection anyway very carefully, some are hard to see.
