Error message comes up saying "printer error has ocurred. Turn off power then back on again. If problem persists see manual" and there is nothing in the manual about it. I have a brand new Cannon Pixma MP640
Not a good start, there is a sensor in the printer reporting an error, Cannons objective in asking you to turn off the printer and turn it back on is to reset the sensor, however if the error persists it is not a faulty sensor reading but a actual fault. The only added suggestion I can make is to step through the installation again ensuring you have removed all internal packaging from the printer and all protective packaging from the ink tanks. After that and as the machine is new you need to contact Canon directly and explain the problem to them, there will always be a percentage of machines which roll off the production line with a fault. I only have the US contact details if that is not applicable you will have to check online for your own country
