Question about Nikon Coolpix S1 Digital Camera

Nikon S1 memory problem

Okay...my camera has been working just fine for about...a year? I'm not sure how long, but all of a sudden my memory card (which is a SanDisk 512 MB) isnt working. I put it in and the message "This Card Cannot Be Used" pops up on the screen. It wont let me format the card on my setup either...it wont let me select that option. Does anyone know the cause of or solution to this? Thanks so much :)
Same problem, but the "Card Cannot Be Used" message didn't consistently appear. Often, turning the camera off and on again would do the trick. I recently reformatted the card in the past week to see if that would help, but now it is consistent showing that error message. I did start using a memory card reader on my PC at work, and I still use the camera dock on my Mac at home. Perhaps there is a problem there? Thanks!

Just so you know, I have this problem also. Anyway, the only thing that works for me is to turn the camera on WITHOUT the card inserted, then insert the card. After this, it will let me take ONE photo, video, or noise clip before it gives me the error again (strangely enough, I just figured out this solution a couple hours ago as I was browsing a listing for a similarly infected camera on eBay).
For a permanent fix, the "cheap camera repair man" can repair both the menus and the error for 55 bucks on his website (DynamicCamera.com).

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

How do i upload pictures from my nikon coolpix s1

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

My Nikon d40x is roughly three years old and the lens has had to have been repaired twice due to it being dropped. Lens is working fine though now. Yesterday i was getting out my car and the camera fell...

Time for some "tough love"...suggest you buy one of the new Pentax point-and-shoots that are especially made for people who continually drop their cameras. This one can be dropped from 3 feet and still work. Leave the good DSLRs to the rest of us.

Nikon memory card all of the sudden downgraded from 1G to hardly anything at all!?!

There are a couple of different things that could help this situation.

First, try deleting photos and videos and other files that might be occupying space on the card.

Secondly, look at the quality (in Movie mode, hit menu and select the quality button). Change it up and down, see what happens.

Thirdly, if you still have the problem, go back to your computer, right click on the card, and see how much space total, and how much free space it shows. If it shows most of the card is free, try taking the movie again. If that doesn't work, try a different card or use the same card in a different camera.

Good luck!
