I had the same problem and solved it by plugging the USB cable into the device, powered it up, went into the "Magellan Roadmate Manager", clicked on "Settings" and then clicked on "Voice Options" and my sound came back.
Won't say that it will work for you, but it did for me. Worth a try!

Hi - I have the same model GPS but I've been unable to locate a copy of the CDs and I'd love to get a copy of them - would that be possible? My email address is email@example.com.
As far as re-installing he maps, here's what I've found. I think this might help: Locate
the files that are loaded on the computer.Magellan Roadmate Manager
example: C:\Program Files\Magellan\Magellan RoadMate Manager
NA\Map\Basemaps Copy all files. Make sure your Roadmate is connected
and click on Example E:/Removable Disk and paste them with other files.
It takes a few seconds to 1 minute to transfer the 25.5 mb file so
don't unplug it until it is finished.
You'll have to obtain a copy of the Magellan Roadmate manager disks, load them into your computer, connect the GPS to your computer using the USB cable and the use the "Roadmate Manger settings" to change the language.
