If you burn dvd movies (video files having ".vob" extension and associated dvd files), make sure you burn them as "dvd video", otherwise they might not play in standard dvd players.
For example, when you try to burn dvd files in Nero as a data dvd, mixed mode dvd or a compilation, the program itself will notify you that such a disc may not be playable in a standard dvd player, so you must burn it in "dvd video" mode.
Note that when you select the "dvd video" mode in Nero (i don't know about the other programs though), the standard dvd folders VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS are automatically created by the program, you should only place the video files (not any folders or subfolders) into the VIDEO_TS folder created by the program.
If you are already doing it this way, then the problem is obviously somewhere else.

The subtitles that show onscreen do not appear to be from the DVD player...I can add subtitles using both the TV and the DVD remotes, but for some reason they are different. There are some that appear that I can't get rid of. Is there some way to reset the DVD player?
